I've read sooo many similar questions! Now it's my turn!
What it's NOT;
Thermostat
Water pump
Blockage
What it COULD be;
Head gasket
Oil pump
Anything else?
How it began. [A short essay!]
Driving to Gatwick, temp as normal one minute, then shot up. Pulled over, no bubbling, no leaks. Carried on driving for about a year with high temp reading. OK on low rev trips, ie; round town, to the next town, light off-roading. However on M/way, normal fun off-roading or any serious work, temp again shoots up. Latest temp surge ended up with oil light on and a brief knocking. Stopped. Drove on at normal pace, no probs.
Replaced; water pump, thermostat, hoses. Flushed rad, matrix et al.
No water in the oil or vice-versa. No leaks. Fan operates as it should. Have taken stat away completely now.
Still temp surging under any sort of medium/serious work?
Once temperature goes up. I resume sedate pace and temp goes back down. I don't want to risk the oil light/knocking. Or a definite head gasket scenario.
Before the initial problem she always ran on about a quarter of the gauge!
What do I try next? Oil pump?
Any suggestions/help gratefully received.
