Hi, my 110 TD5 2001, had a a-ball joint problem which I solved. (Clonk Nr 1) gone.

Now I have a different clonk I dont know if its the haftshafts, flanges or even the diff that has play. Is there anyway to troubleshoot this without ramdomly changeing parts.

thanks
E

First place to start is the transfer box input gear, but as yours is a later car it might already have the cross drilled type fitted.
This is if the clonk sounds like its coming up from under the centre seat?

Lynall,

thanks, I would locate it more in the back of the truck, but I cannot exclude the transfer case. It definitely doesnt like doing 100km/h 105 fine, 95 fine. 100.... abit weird.

but if I get one rear wheel off the ground how much play should the wheel turning? And if i get both back wheels off the ground how much should they be free from each other if you know what I mean.

Rgds

Just popped it out of gear and there a fair bit of play both ways in the front dif and in the transfer box... about 1 inch each way feels really loose... thanks for your help by the way... the play seems to be in the dif and transfer box ujs seem solid....
