This may sound like a bone question but I'm after an MoT failure Series II, where would be the best place to look for one?
I live in West Hampshire between Andover and Salisbury but can't think that many people will sell MoT failures in the local press so where do they end up, I can't believe they all get scrapped?

how much you want to pay

To be honest as little as possible! Obviously I realise the better the overall condition the more I'll have to pay but all I'm really looking for is a Landy where its chassis is in good condition with a working engine and transmission. What I'm hoping to do is be able to do get the vehicle roadworthy and then bit by bit, panel by panel get it as nearly new looking as possible. This is part of the reason for the minimum initial cost.

You can get a rough series for 200 quid. What it won't have is a decent chassis. It probably won't have a decent engine or gearbox and it probably won't really be much good at all. Think what a replacement chassis costs, say 800quid, then think what it would cost to recondition an engine and gearbox, maybe the same again. That's what you're probably looking at to get a solid, useable series landy. Then if you want original really nice condition you're looking at spending probably a couple of grand on it again. Mechanical condition is more important than aesthetics so expect to pay a decent price for a decent Landy.

Yep, agree. you'd be better off spending a few hundred quid more and looking at a lot to get one with a reasonable chassis/bulkhead that's a bit/very tired around the edges. There's a lot about. but it is difficult to track them down.

The cheapest on Autotrader at the mo' is £875 & in Wiltshire!

This one's from ebay. £102, reserve not met & a day and a bit to go. It's been in a field for 25 years FFS!

1959 series 2 landrover on eBay, also, Land Rover Range Rover, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 22-Jun-08 23:03:27 BST)

Hee hee, there are some chancers out there!

Prolly already been said..
but.. you truly get what you pay for.. no getting around it..

You DO NOT save money by putting it together bit by bit... When you get the car and know it has 4 major problems.. square it.. and you'll be closer to reality.
If you can't afford it.. you can't afford it.

I realise this thats why I am hoping to get a Series III in good running order and just concentrate on improving/altering the bodywork more than a complete rebuild. It's more a project than a poor-mans way to own a Landy.

ps I've already got a Disco....
