where else do TD5's leak??

Right im getting annoyed now, I sealed my sunroofs up to stop the leaks and now its coming from somewhere else! :mad: It either looks like the windscreen seal or maybe where the roof bars are mounted to the roof?? are they prone to leaking there?? any help appreciated!
 
I'd like to be able to sound smug now and brag how my 300 has no sunroofs and thus no leaks. Unfortunatly it's still a disco so the water has found another way in. When it rains I get rivers comming in behind the dash into the front passenger footwell, and probs the drivers side too , though i've never bothered taking the carpet up to check.

I'm just going to move to a country where it doesnt rain so much. That way the leaks wont matter and working outside to fix all the other things that go wrong will be more pleasurable.

It's probably the screen. If it's passenger footwell it's the aircon.
 
I think its the screen, its all around the sunvisor just above the passenger door and up as far as the rear view mirror, and seems to have run back towards the back of the car too.

In that case the screen needs to be removed and refitted (or chipped and replaced under insurance). You can do a temporary repair with tape, or once the weather gets dry, maybe try Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure, as recommended in one of the many other threads on this subject. qv.
 
i had problems with a disco getting wet on the front footwels, i traced it back to the rear alpine windows in the roof ! the water travels across a square rail that runs the full lenght of the roof. it was then running down the window pillar into the footwel.

if you remove the trim round the alpine windows you will see if water is getting in there.
if it is get yourself a tube of panel adhesive and remove the window, clean the rubber trim and dry it then seal the roof edge and the inside of the rubber window seal and refit. then seal the glass into the rubber clean off excess and leave to dry. if you have done it right no more leaks :)
 
How does one go about removing and refitting the alpine windows? I've heard the glass is expensive to replace cause it's an odd shape.

phoned my insurance as I had a big chip that they failed to repair last time, so new screen for me tomorrow! :D if this doesnt cure it Ill check the alpine lights!
 
Right the screen hasnt cured it, could it be where the roof bars are bolted?? Its all around the top of the passenger door, and all around the map holder and sun visor. its really beginning to p**s me off now! cant see to drive anywhere because its now misting up!

My local independent LR service resealed my windscreen without removing it and it has worked fine. Was leaking in top corner on driver's side and it buggered my fusebox...
 
Theres a sheet somewhere on the Internet about this issued by Land Rover. I had the same problem with mine, The windscreen was refitted 3 times and it still leaked! The sheet says to reseal the top of the window behind the window seal cover along the top. The plastic cover is just to look at and serves no purpose.

Put some silicone along the top of the windscreen towards the back and jobs done

yes, after sealing around the base of my roof bars the water has stopped comung through the sun visor.
 
How have you sealed your sunroof? if its leaking it will be where the plastic seals or not as the case usualy is against the metal roof (out side) mine had the same symtoms and now has green tape around :rolleyes:until i get chance to silicon it. No more leaks
 
Ive sealed from the glass to the metal using roofing sealant, a special tape called flashband, Im not 100% its worked though. Im trying to source a tube of black sealant and seal the roof rail to see if its that or if the tape has failed, because my rear sunroof hasnt leaked since, only the front corner!
 
mine leaked in from the plastic tray, this distorts over time where it seals to the roof on the outside.
 
The roof lining is lined cabin side with material but has some sort of plastic/fibrelass backing. So water leaks in and then depending upon where the car is parked and the run of the lining surface it drips out at the first weakest link.

If you do a google search there is tons of stuff on the D2 roof leaks. I found a great step by step procedure for removing the lining with photos. If you follow that you can get the lining out completely in around 1 hour and then you can test and see where it is coming in.

Someone had covered my sunroofs in silicone and tar and all sorts but they still leaked. Best is remove the lining, check where the leak arises then focus on that. My guess remains that it will be the sunroofs. They need to be removed to clean up the face between the plastic surround and the metal opening and then you can get new seals on ebay to replace the seal between glass and sunroof. You can also look at the plastic boxes at the corner of the sunroof tray. Chances as these will be broken, or will have become detached from the frame. Plastic and metal don't work well together. When water gets into the sunroof frame it is supposed to drain via these plastic outlets and rubber hoses down the windscreen pillars. Guess what they snap and it then runs all over the headlining. Oh and if it makes it down the tubes they stop short so in the rear nearside pillar (behind the light lens) it discharges over the air filter for the air suspension pump causing pump failure. Good to get in there and extend that pipe.
