hi all just a couple of thing's this is my first discovery and these might be common faults.the first thing, plenty of fan noise but not air coming out onto the windscreen,it comes out of the front part of the dash but not the top plus no heat at all?.next thing is when i start to turn the wheel 9 times out of 10 i get a sort of rubbing / viberation noise through the steering wheel (only at very low speeds 5mph or when parked)i used to get a screaching noise when i was at full lock but that was the alatanator belt and that has been done.any ideas would be great .

p.s it's a 93 2.5tdi cheer's:confused:

as for your blowers, if they are comming out the front vents then they will be cold, move the other swtich to circulation then see what happens,

Screeching noise @ low speed could be steering column related.
If theres no play in the steering column or uj joint steering shaft could just be a 'dry' bearing

Have you checked the level of power steering fluid? If it is low it often makes a screeching noise whilst turning at slow speeds

I get a moaning sort of sound that can be heard in and outside the car when I turn the steering wheel and its louder when I'm turning into a parking spot for example. I have checked the steering fluid and its exactly as it should be.

My daughter reckons it sounds just like me cos I moan all the time!!!

We had this noisy steering problem on three Discos, with the first it was a low fluid level - top up and she was fine, with the other two the noise was due to low front tyre pressures causing undue friction therefore load on the steering components - pumped up the tyres and the problem disappeared.

Cheers
Dave

I'll be checking my tyres today anyway as I'm off on a 1400 mile trek in it tomorrow. I'll try to remember to let you know if it makes any difference. The noise does seem very localised, if I put my head down under the steering column near the fuse box then turn the wheel it sounds as if its right next to me, but we all know how sound carries.

My father inlaw (N reg) my friend (P reg) friend at work (R reg) other friend at work (N reg) and mine all make groaning noises at parking speed ! I am no expert but live with it, it just the way they are, incidently mine has new tyres, fluid topped up and no play in steering but still makes noise
