Hi all,
I have a 300tdi D1, late '94 ES with 120k on it, i was wondering when the best time to change up is - i very rarely seem to rev past 3000rpm but is this too soon or not?

I know the turbo peaks at about 2900rpm so its not going to get any more boost but do they like or loathe more revs??

Just thinkin' thats all;)

When i was just pottering around going to and from etc i used to change up when the engine needed it or depending on traffic etc. But usually used to be around 2k-2.5k.

I normally aim for the next higher gear to engage with 1750rpm if I want some acceleration; or 1500rpm if I'm just pottering along in a line of traffic. I think this equates to about 2250-2500rpm from the previous gear.

I change gear when i run out of numbers on the rev counter :D

actually rarely more than 3000

if you put your foot down in an auto it wont go above 3000 - 3250 before changing so similar to what you are doing in your manual.

If i'm putting the foot down in mine it doesn't change until it gets to 4000 rpm, does something need adjusting to lower it a bit?

usually about the 3k mark, but if the injectors need a clean out, then i will take it to the governor in 3rd for about 5 seconds - cleans all the soot out of it

dont know to be honest, I raised a thread a while back concerned mine was changing too early but was told it was about right. probably just another case of all landys being different ;)
