You know that feeling when your heart sinks because you suspect you've bought a ringer?
When I got the current P38, a few weeks later things began to go wrong (as usual).
Terrible water ingress issues whenever it rained and the drivers footwell would be full of water.
Engine Disabled message unable to enter EKA (microswitches) etc.
I looked at the engine Serial number and it didn't match the V5 paperwork.
Lots of protestations of innocence from the dealer I bought it from etc. etc.
I was really concerned that despite its pristine appearance, I had been sold a pup.
But, it drove fine the faults got fixed and the anxiety subsided and so I decided not to let it worry me too much. Then, the chap on here that is able to access a vehicles build spec from the factory obliged me with the full details about a year later and the engine serial number I have is the one JLR have in their records so the DVLA is in error and my vehicle may have been pranged and repaired but has never been written off so all is good.
Why do I write this now? Because I just read the post of the guy with the 6-wheeled fire-engine and all his provenance issues. The DVLA do get things wrong and LR ownership isn't all doom & gloom. :D

4yrs ago had my engine replaced sent V5 to dvla with change of engine number guess what just sent the log book back unaltered. To tax my car I get 50% reduction so have to send all my paper work off to be taxed. Then what do you know last year new log book with new serial number was returned I think they are just behind in what they do.

My issue was OF just slapped in the engine (brand new car no mileage)and didn’t change the number on the V5.

It’s something that the UK seems a bit relaxed on when selling/buying.
As I wanted it registered here where they are very fussy about numbers matching, I simply got my UK garage to write a letter confirming xxxx number engine in reg number car.
Sent it all off to DVLA and it came back all changed no issue. All legal and now registered here:)

Probably the only 6.3 stupid liter Range Rover listed on the DVLA system:eek:

In @DanClarke s case the build sheet would probably be enough evidence to simply have the mistake put right with no issues.

Fussy about matching numbers here in France too.

Yep, an over 750kg trailer has to have it's own registration document, number plate and insurance over here.

Even our little 750kg has its own docs and reg here. And an MOT/ Vignettes requirement on larger.

Same here in Portugal re numbers and trailers...
As I've said before woe to anyone thinking they can reg a Landy in non UK EU countries that's had a petrol to diesel swop might be ok on V5 but COC will say different...

DVLA get things wrong all the time. On log book my car was first registered on the 1st of January 1999. Did not know they were open on new years day. On other car check info pages it was first registered 31st December 1999.
