hi all
i am new to driving freelanders...so this may be a silly question...i just feel that my new 05 freelander td4 is not running as it should..i have no problem with power once the turbo is spinning....MY PROBLEM is below 2000rpm.....i just feel the car should have more power than it has....the engine feel slow to rev...sluggish...i go to pull out and there is just hardly no power until the turbo cuts in at 2000rpm.....maybe its just me and this how td4's run...??..my question is to anyone else now driving a td4.....can you tell me when the turbo is coming on yours???? .....on mine i have no power then as soon as the revs hit 2000 rpm the power is there... i have changed maf sensor .... i have cleaned egr valve and i have changed the crank case filter.....all pretty clean anyway... i have took the car up to 100mph with no problem.....thanks

1750rpm roughly. Your problem is most likely your MAF sensor, very common problem. To test just unplug & the ECU will revert to default settings. If the car now runs much better then you will need a new MAF. Do a search on here as this is much talked about. Original Bosch MAF - very expensive & not too reliable. Cheapo aftermarket MAF - probably cheaply made & won't work. Pierburg MAF - will physically fit but will need a MAFAM compensator to make it electrically compatable & is the most reliable cost effective solution. See link below.

hi all
yes i have had the air flow sensor changed....i had a brand new lucas sensor fitted...supplied by freeranger 4x4 deeside http://www.deeside4x4.co.uk (....it did make the car a lot better but its just got no guts below 2000rpm.... could it be the turbo boost sensor? ,,,thanks again for help so far

As previously implied old chap it would help the diagnosis greatly if you would kindly disconnect the said sensor and report whether your mount runs better without it. :)

Yep, that's my point too. I'm wondering if the "replacement" one assuming it's a genuine Lucas as stated has the electrical characteristics of the original Bosch or possibly a Pierburg. As Chaser says disconnection will reveal all.

Could well be chromie because the only other time I have heard of a Lucas one being fitted the guy complained of the same thing....

Hey guys I have the same problem and have swapped out the air sensor with four others and no go. The fault code also shows MAF as being the problem but this does not solve it.

With your problem, I'd still suggest unplugging & seeing if the car is any better. I'd also be tempted to check over the wiring & connector to the MAF is it's consistently flagging up a fault code assuming you know for sure that your MAF itself is good.
