I have a Defender 90 and am looking to upgrade my wheels. I have awfull non original steel wheels and they need to go. My defender has rear drums fitted. I have been offered some free style alloys by a friend but he said they may not fit as I have drums on the rear, is this true? Also I am considering the standard defender steels are these wheels all the same fit? Ie are 91 rims the same as 2002, 2006, 2008?

Please help!

Welcome to the looney zone.I think your mate is right drum brakes stop lots of wheels fitting. Look for wolf rims they will fit and are 1 inch wider than standerd so gives you a bigger choice of tyres, and look good imo

indeed do a search. Yes all wheels from early to current will fit. you have a large choice so best not be hasty. Decide which tyres you will be fitting and then go for the right wheel. No good doing it the other way around. Plenty of packages out there that include tyre, wheel fitted etc. As above, big fan of wolfs :) strong steel wheel designed for military use. looks understated but does the job. other options are various 8 spoke and modulars, all good wheels. then you have alloys which you mentioned but may not fit.

why dont you get your mate around and try fitting them? you will see 1st hand then. 2 jacks, should only take 5 minutes of your time. just try 1 rear.

Well I think I am going to go for the standard steel wheels and put it back to what it should be. So just to get this right even though my Defender is a 91 model 04 wheels or even 08 wheels will fit? there are lots on ebay but I already have tyres as these are mint on mine.

Thanks for your help guys
