What's your MPG?

Just wondering what MPG everyone else is getting on their petrol or diesel RR?

I have a 2.5DSE and seem to get:

17-19mpg (mostly B roads)
21-24 (mostly A roads)

Are those trip computer figures or brim to brim calculated ones, as the computer's often way out? According to my computer I did 50+ miles the other week without using a drop, but then used 14 miles worth finding a parking space in a multistorey

On a long motorway journey I calculate I get around 30-31 (Reading to Galway, Ireland+100miles=1 tank), around 20-21 about town and it seems to average out about 26 overall.

They are trip computer figures.

I am running a p38 4.6 on LPG & Unleaded, My trip computer was reading 21 MPG average, I have just calculated it out Brim To Brim on just LPG yesterday from Paignton to Coventry averaging about 65/70 all the way and It worked out as 14 MPG........ :-0

On a previous thread somone mentioned about the readings being wrong if the car has been 'chipped', how can I tell if it has been chipped and what does it do to the car and performace?

Chipping the diesel doesn't affect the reading as the chip alters the feedback loop, not the output from the ECU, so the ECU knows exactly how much fuel it is putting in.

I find my trip computer accurate, I get between 21-24 mpg from mixed driving. Think of all the Clubcard points!

Yeah Ianmjdun is right, the ecu should know what fuel has been used even if it been chipped diesel, petrol or LPG.

Has anyone tried clearing out their intercooler with a glug of petrol to see if it improves the diesel a bit?

Intercooler clean-out is a recommended activity - it improves driveability for sure, whether it improves mpg is unproven.

hi from n.ireland,currently running a 4.0 v8 on twisty irish country roads and am on an average of 16-20mpg on a brim to brim figure.this will drop to 12-14 when pulling a loaded cattle trailer....but hey,thats the fun of a p38 :doh:

My chipped (plug-in) 98my DSE Auto is averaging 22.5mpg brim to brim with a big mix of driving (100 miles per week off road, 200 country roads and 100 national roads). My Trip Computer reads 1/6 over on average mpg (divide by 6 multiply by 5 to get accurate calculated figure).

I'll get up to 27 (33 on the trip) on a long National road trip.

Ahh if its a plug in chip... they fool the ecu into thinking its fueling X amount when its actually adding a little more. So yeah the trip computer would be slightly out.

But the if its remapped "chipped" ECU it should know how much its putting in.

At least you get the illusion of higher MPG

Running about, I get on average 25mpg brim to brim, this is on French roads with little traffic. On the autoroute, cruising at 130kph, as long as there is not a strong headwind it gets close to 30mpg. The message centre readings are 2 to 3 mpg over running around and 1 to 2 mpg over cruising the autoroute. These are figures from 10 months ownership with a brim to brim check on every tank full.

12.6 round town- short trips

16.5 on motorway at 65-70mph

3.9 classic on petrol, the wallet says ouch!

I have a 4.0lt petrol LPG It does between 10 and 14 to the gallon running on gas which really equates to between 20 to 28 to the gallon if you look at the price of petrol....
