Ok, so last night out of nowhere the alarm on the disco started going off for no reason…

I only heard it at 4am (because bedroom windows were open) unlocked it and locked and it stoped.
This morning when I got up it went off again! No reason at all..
Place where I live is quite safe, you can leave cars open and kids leave their pushbikes/toys all the front gardens and nothing is nicked.
So it wasn’t someone trying to nick it..

Today I've brought the disco to work and left it in the visitors car park with the security people, so I can go there and ask them if the alarm as been going off..

but… any ideas what can be causing the alarm to go off?

there's 2 LEDs on mine, a normal flat one and then one on the bit where you put the keyfob for the immobilizer…
when I close the doors, the flat LED blinks quite fast and sometimes it just stays on for a few seconds and then starts flashing again….
also, when I unlock the disco after the alarm has been off, this flat LED stays permenantly on till I turn igntion on (didn’t use to stay like this)

So I don’t know if this sequence of lights is a code to let you know what's wrong?
On my bike, depending on the LED status and number of bips when you turn the alarm off, it means which part has been messed….

Anywhooo… any ideas what might be wrong?

I'm going to be out tonight and don’t want it to keep going off….. suppose I could always disconnect the battery no?

cheers
JP

****e....
just went to check it and the security guys said its been goin off all morning.. so I've disconnected the horn.

anyone knows any common faults that might make the alarm go off? anything at all?
I dont have a clue where to start as this as started just out of the blue.. the disco hasnt moved since last Sunday and the alarm only started going off last night.

btw, it's a 93 200tdi

There's the first point... the standard disco imobiliser is non contact, so if you have to touch the fob you must have an 'extra' one...

Next question then - which one's going off???

Just a thought, you hadn't left windows/sunroofs open because of the heat had you? If i leave mine open more than a crack the wind blows stuff around and sets it off by the ultrasonics, same happens if i leave a dog in the car... sure i remember seeing somewhere you can stop the movement part of the alarm circuit arming somehow.

Yes I think I have an extra one as there's a certificate of alarm in the paperwork that came with the disco…

So, let's see if I can explain this…

I have one normal LED on the dash and a keyfob contact with an led, I'll take a pic at lunch time and post here.

So, what's happening:

Alarm goes off… beepp, beep, beep…
I unlock the door on the keyfob….. disco opens
and normal LED stays permanently on, used to turn off.
LED on imob contact is flashing, just as normal, always used to do this.

I touch the imob keyfob and the contact led, stops flashing, normal as always.
Normal LED still permanently on.

Key in the ignition, turn it and normal LED goes off and I can start the disco with no trouble at all….

what puzzles me, is that nothing has changed, I didn't drive, I didn’t open the doors….it has just been sat on the drive and last night the alarm gone mental…

I don’t think I have a sensor inside, well at least I havent seen any sensors in the corner where they usually are..but anyway all the windows are closed.

I have heard of this happening when the battery is on its way out or the voltage has dropped a bit? Water in the electrics? (Condensation from the heat prehaps? Unlikely but maybe...)

On our disco (300TDi with Standard Alarm), if you lock it by the door the sensors inside the car deactivate so you can leave a Dog, Child ect in the car, but the alarm will still go off if a door is opened.

yeh, been told the battery could cause this and to be honest it has been parked outside since Sunday, but when it started there was no struggle at all... and the battery is like 6 months old.

but...

another update.

Just been speaking with the security guys, they said it's been quiet now, but of course it has, I disconnected the horn…
but they also said they haven't seen the indicators going on and off either..

So I unlocked the disco and this time, the normal LED didn't stay permanentely on, just stopped flashing and went off, just as it would normally do.
Meaning that the alarm probably hasn’t been triggered (I assume the normal LED staying permanently on after unlocking is to show the alarm has been triggered while you were away?)

Here's a pic.. the top LED is what I've been referring to as "normal" and the bottom one is the immob contact with LED.

would check the main battery 1st, try charging it or taking it for a long run and see if the problem goes away.

The 3 pin contact looks a bit like one that used to be on the market called "CONLOG" or "CONLOC" or similar.

Depending on the model of alarm/immobilser, under thatcham rules, it has to re-arm after 30 seconds if the vehicle is unlocked but then doors not opened. With my toad alarm, the led flashes when the vehicle is locked, then comes on permanently when it is unlocked until a door is opened, then goes out. if the door isn't opened for 30 seconds, the alarm chirps and re-arms.

Also, the number of flashes on the toad alarm corresponds to what has set the alarm off. If it is toad, let me know and I'll post what the different flashes mean.

good luck

mhh.. my alarm doesnt beep at all when I lock the doors...
I'll have a dig at home to check the immob papers and check if the doors lock again if I dont open and the exact sequence of flashes when I open/close doors..

thanks!

bloody hell,it could do with a duster going over it mate.:eek::p;)

the different sequence of lights could be to tell you that the alarm has been activated while you've been away from the vehicle - different sequences tell you which part of the alarm has been activated (door switches/bonnet switch/ultrasonics).

as i found out with mine a week or 2 ago the cause could be something as simple as a moth inside the car - when your in it the moth stays still, when the car is empty the moth flies around and sets the ultrasonics off. took me about 3 days to find the bastid that was settin mine off at 3am:mad:

I find a quick motorway blast with all the windows open every couple of weeks or so keeps that problem in order:D

Well....

seemed to be alright all weekend...
havent connected the horn back again as I' havent been home all weekend for more than a couple of hours at a time...

but everytime I've come home and unlocked the disco, the normal LED light would not stay on, leading me to believe the alarm has never been triggered (as previously after the alarm was triggered, this light would stay permantely on until I switched the igntion on)
