I have recently bought a Japanese import 96 300tdi disco and wanted to blank the EGR.
I downloaded pictures of the process as I'm not very experienced mechanically. However, on mine there is a cylindrical part between the EGR valve and the metal part of the pipe that connects to the main top hose. It has what appears to be a water hose branch from the bottom hose connected into this part with another hose exiting the opposite side.
What does this do and can I still go about blanking the valve ?
If so would it be best to blank above or below this part ?

Many thanks

Sounds like an exhaust gas COOLER to me. SOME but not all Discos had them.
They were fitted in a vain attempt to make the EGR degrade performance and pollution less.

Ignore it meantime and blank the EGR pipe that fits the exhaust manifold.

In due course get advice how to ditch the entire EGR system and bin it.

Just been informed that what I have is a Euro III EGR valve unit and the extra part is indeed a cooler for the gas coming from the exhaust to the inlet hose.
It would seem the recognised answer is to take off the 2 water pipes and join them, then remove the EGR as normal.

Problem was, despite much application of plus gas et al, I still couldn't budge the hex bolts holding the egr on. Solution so far is I've blanked it at the end of the water cooler, which appears to be working if not ideal !
