Ger one of the landy magazince and work through all of the insurers
who advertise in the back.
One of them has always given me the cheapest quote i could find for my
landies.

£215 fully comp - £50xs on a 110 Defender 1992 J wife and self to drive. Max
no claims - me no acc/convictions age 50, wife 1 sp30 aged 37.

When I renewed my insurance last year I did what you suggest above. I found
that most of those that advertised wanted way too much, and one even refused
to insure me because my vehicle is modified.

The modification? A winch! Why are they advertising in a Landy mag, what
sort of customer are they hoping to attract?

I ended up going with the NFU, cheaper than the others, very good service.
You can find your local branch by searching on the 'net, that's what I did.

Odd - nobody had any problems with any of the mods on my Disco - a winch is
the least of them.

1992 200 TDI Disco - heavily modified
1982 V8 Range Rover - heavily corroded
2000 Rover 75 - heavily driven
1993 Lexus LS400 - just plain heavy on fuel

Very odd. I had one, can't remember who, refuse and another quoted about
£650!

The NFU didn't even flinch though, it made no difference at all.
