Looking for tubular bumper options for a Range Rover Classic.

I know a number of years back there where quite a few very affordable options, there used to be some on ebay for about £90. I even had one customised for D1 (altered the width slightly). It was still only something like £125-150.

Looking on ebay now the cheapest is £260, but most around £400-500 and one even at £780!!!! wtf :oops::oops:

Anyone know of any reasonably priced ones? I mean in basic form they are only a section of tube with a couple of brackets mounted. Probably £20 or so in materials....

I have made a few in the past and all costs have now gone up, Steel has shot up in price, consumables etc also.
You won't get much for £20 at the steel stockist, I recently refurbished a vintage trailer, I thought the bloke was having me off when I bought some basic angle iron, when I checked up he was cheap.
From a fabricators point of view its not a volume product and its having the correct liability insurance, many of the little fab shops have gone which doesn't help.

Lots of reasons for the price hikes, and not a lot of rational sense can be made of some of the excuses given.

I would never buy another bumper from a supplier and would opt to have a custom item made for me to my own specs or build it myself, the costs won't be silly high either way but suppliers these days are putting silly prices on stuff because they sell low volumes and competition is minimal.

I looked at making them many years ago.
A good friend does all my structural calculations, we had a good look at the competition and it was shocking to find a couple of people who's products weren't up to the job!
I never looked any further as its too low volume

That's kind of why I like the custom builds and small fabrication shops, I've been looking at the latest offerings in CAD for home use and they're pretty darn good and really quick to program, that means (OK this on the proviso that you already have CNC plasma/lazer/water cutting table that can handle 10mm plate) that you can provide a whole service not just supply a bumper, everything from consultation and measurements/pictures and then a finished product to their own exacting needs.
