not the worst quality item in the hand but who knows what the internals are like.

I sourced an 'old stock' Lucas brake switch - made when Lucas was Lucas I guess! I had some issues with modern Lucas ones. I'm sure I bought a second genuine old stock Lucas one once I established the first was all good. It's on the shelf somewhere in the garage join case of future need. Not sure If there are any olduns about for sale these days.

Alright, no need to brag :D

I got 'new new stock' lucas brake switch fitted to the gear stick mount today, seems to work (testing with a multimeter) but need some new bulbs!

I feel your pain. After market light switches for landys are utter crap. I had one that lasted a day as part of a fiasco of going through three in two weeks. I got into the habit of carrying a spare switch in case I wa marooned somewhere. Eventually swigged and bought a Lucas OEM switch which has proved totally reliable. The aftermarket switches disintegrated cos they can’t take the current and burn out. I’ve had smoking dashboard which is the signal of failure.

I once spent half a day fault finding a S3 with light problems- in the end it was the New indicator switch. Took it off, got old bent one out of Bin, fitted it and 7 years later, it is still working.

or take one from most Volvos. they don't sell many as they don't break.

4 radiators, all faulty on arrival
1 exploding light switch
2 exhausts both leaking from silencer seam
1 wiper motor stop switch lasted three weeks
Pair of ball swivels had to buy better bearings that didn’t rumble when turned by hand.

I think they’re ace.
You did well then! I reckon that's quite a small list for them!
