Have just bought a 98 2.5 diesel HSE auto, with 22inch wheels.I want to go back to the original 16 inch wheels, with 235 70 16 tyres
What was the standard wheel for my vehicle? I see so many for sale on ebay etc. in all sorts of styles.
Also, does the TD5 wheel fit straight on without any mods needed, with the same wheel nuts?

1998 diesel P38 were never fitted with 235/70/16 tyres. 255/65/16 or 255/55/18 are standard fit. Very early poverty models may have had a 235/70/16 tyre on a steel wheel as the spare. Also no such thing as a 1998 2.5 HSE. 1998 2.5 is DSE. DHSE after 1999.

Thanks for your speedy reply.
You are, of course, correct, my V5 states 2.5DSE
Just checked the spare, it is an unused and never been on the road by the looks of it 255/65/16 Pirrelli on 8j rim, which has definitely never been on the road.
My manual ( page 177) states the vehicle takes 235/70/16 on 7j rims, or 255/65/16 on 8j rims,it does not say petrol or diesel; I suppose the bigger tyre/wheel size,as you say, must be the diesel
Does the TD5 have these 8j rims with 255/65/16 tyres?

Only early models were fitted with 7 J rims and 235 tyres as far as i am aware. Both petrol and diesel. 255/65/16 or 255/55/18 are what to go for. Disco II TD5 is fitted with a variety of wheel and tyre sizes. Make sure you get the correct ones.

I have 255/65/16 on my p38dse. My mate has 255/55/18 on his. I feel mine rides a little better. Mk. 2 Disco wheels bolt on but you would need to check wheel offset is same.

Disco II fit but some had different nuts and also the Rangie wheels have a lip so they hang on the hub but some Disco II ones don't.

Also be aware that some of the 16" Rangie ones look very similar but aren't! Not sure if some were Disco II and some P38 but they are subtly different. Hard to spot unless you see them side by side but when you spot it it niggles.
MrGorsky might have a picture he can share of some.
