With the P38 being known for having little hic ups. What spares do you keep around the place? Apart from the obvious service items. I hate getting caught with my trousers down waiting for spares

i kept in tank pump , serpentine belt. water pump windscreen wipers glow plugs UJs oil filter air filter

I would have a wheel bearing but being they are handed iand cost £250 I think not

only the basics for me
full set of filters (inc pollen, gearbox & LPG)
set of wiper blades & since I went from 22" to 21" they don't flap about any more
set of iridium plugs
bulbs inc HEVAC & dashboard
tyres (always keep a couple of ebay purchased scorpion ST's as they seem to suit well)
batteries and push pad infills for key fobs
that's about it

For a very long journey out:
Spare serpentine belt and the 15mm spanner I had modified to be a foot longer.
top-up oils plus antifreeze (small containers) and some ready mixed windscreen wash)
Spare air compressor and EAS Emergency shrader valves.
Sealy portable roadstart unit
Sweets, drinking water, CDs
Spare bulb kit
Remote batteries
First Aid kit
Tow rope

When I had the P38 and lived in Ireland, shipping of parts from time of order could take up to a week so I decided to have my own stock of what I considered to be useful parts. Oils etc. are not included as these can be bought anywhere.
From memory, this is what I had :
Full set of gaskets and oil seals for engine (4.6), transmission & axles.
Spare filters (Oil, Air, Fuel & Pollen)
Bonnet release cable assembly
Spare Spark Plugs
Serpentine belt
Pair of propshaft U.J's
Front & Rear Brake Pads
EAS piston & cylinder + spare seal kit, 6mm half hard nylon tube and push in fittings
Fuse box relays, yellow & green
Fuses and various bulbs
Tyre valve cores
3/16" O/D copper brake pipe & fittings
Plus...
A brand new front axle complete with swivels that I bought off Ebay good few years ago at the right price, just in case I had trouble replacing the front swivel ball joints. I managed to do them fine and recently sold it to a forum member.
From memory, this is what I had :

You meant hubs. Yeah front are handed, rear are interchangeable.

The P38 is the only car I've ever owned where I feel the need to hold bulk stocks of parts and carry diagnostics wherever I go. It say's a lot about the quality of the product does it not?
The only things I take on a journey are diagnostics, tow rope, a set of schrader valves,a portable compressor and a length of nylon air line with some connectors. Non car specific are the obligatory set of bulbs, warning triangles (2 if towing), first aid kit, fire extinguisher plus fuses and spare glasses as required in some European countries.
