What Shocks?

Hi, I need to replace all four of the shocks on my 200Tdi, but I am looking for advice on what to get, I do not do any off roading just used on the road. Not sure to go for the standard ones or Gas.

Compare prices an see what you think. I spent over 400 quid on poncy suspension for my bike an couldn't tell any difference, so I've got Armstrong ones for my 90. I can't see expensive stuff making any difference, speshly on a Landie.
 
Thanks for that, I have been doing a search and the general feeling seems to be a good quality standard type. Bearmach is on my Doorstep so I will nip down there and see what they have got.

P.S. Just come across this site and it is excellent, much better than another I have been using for years but has now gone rapidly Downhill.

If yer going for standard shocks don't bother with bearmach they'll charge you at least twice what everyone else is charging
 
I'm with the hog on this one.

Heavy duty suspension = uncomfortable
Upgraded shocks = shockingly expensive

There was nothing wrong the the original Armstrong Woodhead design, cheap, work well, no nonsense.
 
Checked with Bearmach and as usual twice as expensive as everybody else, £90 + vat, found another company via magazine Armstrong £8.32 each + vat Free delivery on orders over £50, job done also ordered a Steering damper and Timing Belt Kit, which I will be attempting soon and any tips on changing this will be greatly appreciated.

Did it this afternoon, learned the hard way a few months ago when I tried to remove the shock to weld the Bracket on the axle, the top bolt snapped and I had to renew the complete bracket attatched to the chassis.
 
Just changed my shocks and springs (200tdi). £8 each shock (armstrongs) and i got a set of 4 heavy duty springs to go with them. A week before you change the shocks and springs sart with the WD40 on all areas!! I did this daily to make sure! combine that with a blow torch all wasnt to bad......except for one nut that took 1hr20mins to loosen. The problem i had was that when i was trying to undo the nut at the bottom was that the whole shock was spinning! I had to clamp it to the chassis.

Throw in a couple of turret rings and all done for £105.00

Think meccano on a grander scale! :D

Gland pliers or Stillies come in handy, but if the shrouds rotten it can be a ball ache getting them off.
 
Yeah was a real git...and a severe test of patience!

The disco is so much smoother now though and corners better.

Well worth it though.
