What is this?

Hope you can help. I just bought a 2004 TD6, the key fob has a 'thing' attached to it. The 'thing' has a small antenna and two buttons for on/off. When I press them the light flashes either green or red a few times and then goes off. I can see no response from anything on the vehicle. I've no clue what to search for online so hope the pic below means something to someone.

First time i seen one of them ,was a d3 on the ramps doing an mot,there was a puff o smoke from the front of the car ,thought dam thing was on fire.You live and learn.....:)

it scared the life out of me the first time i saw smoke coming out the front of my D3 , came on as it was below 5c , after asking on here i then understood i had a fbh , doh
