What is this supposed to do?

Silly question (so standby with silly answers), but can anyone tell me what the left hand button/rod on the speedo of my wife's '05 Freelander is supposed to do?

The right-hand one toggles between ODO and Trip readings and, if held in, resets the trip reading to zero. The left-hand one doesn't seem to do anything - should it?

We don't have the owners handbook. If it is supposed to do something, the intention is not very intuitive!

Thanks
Hugh

"What does this button do" will probably be my 'famous last words'!

If my Freelander is anything to go by it will be the random fault generator...by pressing any button your not sure what purpose it serves will select a fault at random to irritate you.

Could be that the single wipe function stops working or that the biting point of the clutch changes without reason..!:p:rolleyes:

Ahh, I thought that the random fault generator was based on the time and the weather... :)

I believe it is used for a temperature read out in certain markets (USA?) but serves no purpose on UK models
