Pretty obvious but I would not have tried to ford a river in spate in my prepared landrover unless I really had to. I would never consider doing it in a standard road 4x4 (fortunately no idiots were harmed in the making of this video)

Did someone try to ford the young river or was the car merely parked a bit too close for comfort? Do we know??

No we dont know for sure but looking at the footage it starts next to a green lane/track, my bet is they tried to ford it. Too many people lack the experience (or common sense) to know that 4x4s are not invincible, Like those guys who took their newish Defender up the track at water break its neck near Radnor in the snow after dark on new years eve a few years ago for no particular reason and were surprised when they rolled it several hundred feet down the bank by the side of the track after loosing traction.

A few years ago, a 4x4 was involved in a tragedy in this same area, (Abergwesyn) although I am not aware of this present place being a normal one for off-roading/green laning. Having said that, there have been quite a few groups recently going through here, obviously out for some fun, so it is possible that was happening. Also, 2 years ago a lady parked her car on her own property alongside the Bran river on the A40 and that disappeared down stream! In heavy rain, these little streams really do fill up very, very quickly.

Too often people think, "I've got a 4x4, I can go anywhere".
It might even be a fully prepared 4x4 but it isn't bloody amphibious, and people don't seem to appreciate the power or perils of water.
