Snap.....got mine in bits today as well:)

Torx bits came out easy after heating with a blow torch for ten mins, just whacked the casing with a BIG hammer and then didn't even need a bar on the little torx socket and lever.

Rest of it was as yours, rust and bearings in bits but balls are good and shiney.
Got discs and pads and new brake pipes with braided hoses so all good for a few years hopefully:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I tried but i had no luck. Balls are buggered, my housing is shafted too. Got a good deal from a local Landy Spares man though. Unfortunately, tried as I might gotta wait for parts. Will be here during this week and do it next weekend. One of the down side to being in the middle of nowhere I guess.
 
Took her to pick up some horse feed for the mother, and stopped of for some soup on the way home, laaavly on a cold windy day like today.

Didn't manage to put my foot down enough to warm her up though so the cab was rather cold... not looking forward to the proper cold!
 
Stripped down the O/S rear hub ready to replace the seals and bearings which collapsed on me in the week due to water ingress. :mad:

Also brought some new bits & pieces to bring up to scratch the cooling side of things which include an Allisport full width rad, header tank and uprated (feckin' massive) gearbox oil cooler.
Also sourced and had made a full set of 8 - yes, 8 - blue silicone coolant hoses from DPH.

I'll post pics when they're all eventually fitted next weekend. :)
 
Was going to do some wire brushing and chassis cleanup but got to the garage and the cold triggered a 'f**k this' nerve so I have done nothing. Past the age where messing around in the cold without good reason is high on the agenda.

Mercury says 4 degrees and with the wind it feels a bloody sight less. I guess the amount done is going to take a dive till next year.

Why oh why can't they build garages that take Disco's etc as standard.
 
Fitted my new braided hoses, I've thrown the stupid rusty retaining clips away and secured them with sturdy 'R' clips, does the job better in my opinion:)
 
I've been fiddling with the Defender today, trying to work out why it was that we needed to be brought home by the AA last night. The engine intermittently cuts out and refuses to start, which was a bit scary coming home on the mortorway, hence the need for the AA. It seemed like an intermittent electrical problem rather than a mechanical one so I set about waggling all the wires I could find, unplugging multiplugs and putting them back together to see if I could get any sense of where the problem could be. I think I can see what the problem is now - oil in the injector loom. Not just a little bit either. On unplugging it at the cylinder head end a load ran out and anointed the alternator. Encouraged by all the oil-in-loom stories on here I felt like I'd really 'arrived' as a TD5 driver. Of course, the workings of the Land Rover are enigmatic and inscrutable to us mortals, and this might not be the whole of the problem, but it certainly won't be helping. So I shall order a new one and fit it next weekend if it arrives in time. I also discovered that what I had previously thought was a fuel pressure regulator leak is more likely to be an oil leak from the rocker cover gasket, so I'll kill two birds with one stone. Plus, I discovered the engine will run for quite a while if the fuel pump is disconnected. I'd never have guessed.
 
Just finished full service, new ebc green stuff brake pads, two new rear prop uj,s, all greased up, just got to sort out RTC damper and all sorted for Wales in a couple of weeks. Do I put me mud tyres on or keep with MTs for Wales?

Bought a 58 plate range rover sport and traded in my disco 3. Woohoo can't wait to pick it up on Tuesday.

Heated bum and electric every thing. Most importantly a full years land rover warranty.


Mmmmmmmm leather and wood.
