What have you done to your Landie today.

Today I fitted a TIM capilliary water temperature gauge, which was very straightforward. It came with the correct adaptor to screw straight into the thermostat housing and was a good price at £30 delivered. No more readings in apples and pears from now on!

I finally found a good secondhand rear headlining so yesterday I relined it in black to match the front. Whilst in the area, I ran the cables for a reversing camera (that's been in the drawer for nearly a year). At lunch today I cut a sod-off hole in my visor and fitted the screen in there (this will soon be covered in black too so the fact it looks ugly doesn't matter). An hour or so this evening and headlining up and camera working a treat

Oh, I also drilled and rivnutted my back door around the window and fitted a mobile Systems rear window guard. Those rivnuts are great!

Yes another Saturday not working on the Land Rover. Hmm. Surely that's not right. I'm surprised it's not needing more maintenance. I suppose I've worked my way through most of the components that wear out, including transmission, brakes, suspension, steering ball joints and bearings, fuel delivery and so on, so until the engine fails I've just got to twiddle my thumbs and wait for the components I've replaced to come to the end of their natural lives.

The main problem is that I took the advice of many internet sources and checked very carefully for rust in the chassis and bulkhead when choosing one to buy. Naively, I assumed that this meant if it was rusty you shouldn't buy it. I didn't realise that you were supposed to buy the rustiest one you could find. So I've denied myself the never-ending weekend ritual of grinding and welding.

a neighbour has a 90 rotting away in his back garden so he said help your self to what you need so I took the full set of racing harnesses and a pair of these

also with some help replaced the back door bolts ,it closes lovely and the close line are sharp. there is a few more bits I would like off it in the future so it looks as if I might save

Removed the tired old A frame ball joint. No wonder it was knocking a bit.

Ordered a nice new greasable one.

Not today, but over the last few weeks I have fitted new front discs and calipers.
I also replaced the original 2.5NA airbox, which was a bit of a lashup with one from a Discovery 1. This was also my first welding project, so very happy with the way it turned out.

Handbrake was sticking on, stripped cleaned and re assembled=working perfect-was bloody hot though doing it!

Just fitted a nice CB and aerial I can recommend Thunderpole for service and quality!

Nice chaps to deal with and the fitters know what they're talking about. Lucky for me they are close by, but the majority of their business is mail order I think. I guess you just get the tyres delivered and find a local garage to fit.

So if you're in need of new rubber, give them a looksy. They were the cheapest for me by a long shot!

new rad fitted after flushing the system twice. will run on just water in system then drain and go 50/50 with antifreeze in a couple of weeks

I've been washing the Land Rover and have noticed what looks like some rusty water staining around the driver's side engine mount. As it's a TD5 this is just below the fuel cooler but I can't see any evidence of a leak on this. Another possibility is that the engine mount is separating so that water is getting between the rubber and metal and squidges out as the engine bounces around. I think it might be the latter as it doesn't have the pink colour of dried antifreeze. I've washed it off and I'll see if it comes back. No sign of coolant loss.

fitted a re-conned steering box to the defender

Gave it a good blast on the motorway, 70 mile round trip at 80 mph. Seems to run sweeter now. It did shake the rear number plate light to bits. I have ordered a new one as its rusted through.
