Driven over to Wales for the weekend to do a bit more work on my wall. It was raining and on the way over I discovered water was leaking in through the interior light fitting. When I went round a left hand corner it leaked on me. I was sitting at some traffic lights on Shrewsbury bypass wondering why the windscreen wipers weren't clearing the drops off the screen. Then I realised they were on the inside. The water had spattered a good deal as it hit my head.

Discovered, for the first time, a wet patch on the headlining. Just above the passenger side of the windscreen

Not much... and it only happened with today's really heavy rain (drove to essex and back in light rain a couple of weeks back and it was perfectly dry)

Went to the Lincoln Steam Rally at the weekend, took the big trailer and the Ruston diesel.

12.5mpg on petrol which wasn't bad for the hilly bits between home and Grantham certainly knock the MPG down!

No water used and a tiny bit of oil.

Picked up the ambulance keys, engine oil change and a fresh gallon of petrol. Turned her over a few times by hand and she fired up 3rd turn of the key :D:D:D Not too shabby after standing unloved for the last 18 months.

Will move her to the workshop tomorrow after robbing the bank

Fitted the towbar today. Not as quick and straightforward as hoped - the captive nuts had very rusty threads so getting the bolts in was something of a nightmare.

Got there in the end though. Really needs a new towing socket (the one that came with the reconditioned towbar is missing its cover and the contacts have corroded) but other than that the electrics worked!

Annoyingly the guy who reconditioned it has painted over the bolts that hold the tow hitch itself onto the plate... a bit annoying as the ball is a bit high up (looks like the previous owner must have used the pin-hitch rather than the ball as its set up more for that)

I've sat in traffic most of today. In Essex. A driver of a Disco 4 waved as he passed slowly by, his lane was moving slightly faster than mine. It cheered me up.

Sounds like my morning. I thought allowing an hour and a quarter between two meetings, one in Bristol, the other in Bath, 15 miles away, would be more than enough. I expected to arrive with at least half an hour to spare.

Buses, bin collections, learner drivers, elderly drivers... you name it, I was stuck behind it. (yes, even a tractor at one point)

As my business partner texted me to say she'd arrived and found a table I was still only half way there.
When she messaged me to see if i'd like a coffee I was still 4 miles out, on a 30mph road, doing 20mph behind an old dear.
When I was due to be there I was 2 miles out behind the same old dear, doing 20mph on a 40mph road and slowly sobbing into my steering wheel.

I've been sobbing more today, I noticed earlier this evening that someone has slashed one of my front tyres, unbelievable!! I don't know when? It's held it's pressure. Just thankful, as if it was done a while ago I have travelled 200 odd miles in the last week, and with children too! What pleasure would anyone gain from doing that to someone's vehicle? And this type of vehicle?! That tyre has only done about 12 K too! You'll all know what I'll be posting in this section tomorrow now 'changed my tyre'!!

Today I towed with it for the first time. Only a fairly light unbraked trailer but good to use the new towbar and it pulls far nicer than the XC90 did.

Back from Bath. Went to have a look at Bristol and Clevedon too.

We saw the Roman Baths - my goodness it is expensive. More than the Romans paid in their equivalent currency I'm sure, and you're not allowed to go in the water nowadays

And a look at Bath Abbey too.

The traffic was very slow on the way home so it took ages. One of the problems was a Range Rover Evoque which appeared to have broken down in the middle of the M42, leading to the closure of two lanes.

Not very warm today in the West country and the midlands - overcast and drizzly, mild and humid. Shouldn't have put the manservants under too much stress. Must have been scary to conk out in the middle of the motorway though. When this has happened to me I've managed to coast over to the hard shoulder. I'd be terrified if I was stuck in the middle of the road.
