My dashcam arrived yesterday, so I've had a bit more of a fiddle with it. It's the sort of thing that's supposed to clip over the mirror. Two problems - the Defender mirror is a but small for its jaws, and it tends to droop with the weight of the camera and vibration as you drive along. So I've bent the jaws so it grips better and have pulled the mirror off the ball on the mirror arm, and forced it back on with a bit of Blu tack in the socket. It's all nice and solid now. I had wondered whether it would be too shaky to give a good picture, but that'snot a problem, and I drove over some bouncy roads to test it. The colour balance is a bit weird and all the trees look like copper beeches. I don't mind because I like copper beeches, but maybe I'll look for something to adjust later.
 
Not today, but I spent yesterday at Slab Common, had a great day but not without some problems.
Got stuck a few times, second time it was in water, just high enough to come inside (wife is now going mad about smelly wet carpet blar blar blar).

Also bent one of my ally wheels on a tree root, but still a good day out.
 
Tomorrow I collect my younger 200tdi engine and disco box. Hoping its just a simple case of changing the selector to make it fit into a fender.

My current disco 200tdi has worn rings and is burning oil after 210k on the clock.
 
Cut/ground/swore at the old corroded towing electrics, cut the wiring and fitted new stuff.
We now have working trailer and caravan lights!
 
Had to take it to collect some heavy slates from the builders merchant, so I gave it a good blast down the motorway and back. About an hour each way. It now feels as if its just had a servicing and tune up. Running nice and sweet; Stopped putting out the odd bit of black smoke.
 
Finally got my dashcam the way I want it. I stuck the mirror onto its stalk with Tiger Seal, which is a lot better than the Blu Tack I had there before. I also got in the post today another lighter socket, which I have just installed behind the driver's seat with a relay in the seat box to switch it on with the ignition. The wires are all out of sight behind the headlining and come down behind the driver's door to the new socket. A nice neat functional job at last.
 
Just replaced all my Terrafirma springs for BP yellow springs painted to match the vehicle ( light green ) and once we finished we went straight out to Hollinsclough to try them out and they was great and tried my new satnav out aswell :D
 
Replaced t'track rod ends, :)
Tried to replace the drag link arm ball joint and sheared one clamp bolt and bent t'other in the process of getting the old ball joint off - realised should have ordered new clamps... oh well need to order a new drop link arm ball joint anyway before t'truck can move again. :oops:
Tried to get panhard rod off, bolts well and truly stuck so covered 'em in WD40 and walked away. :rolleyes:
Replaced fag lighter - can now power crapnav. :p
Got t'clock working :)
 
Changed the ignition barrel and rear door lock, sorted out the dodgy earth on the front led lights and worked out the reason they don't work was down to a blown fuse behind the speedo. Unfortunately the fog light switch seems to be bust and stuck on so they come on every time the ignition is on. Ran out of time to remove switch to check but I'm not sure the wiring is correct.
Adjusted all the door catches so the drivers door doesn't need to be slammed and the passenger door actually looks shut now!
Checked out alternator output and battery after a night standing to eliminate them from the starting issue. Found a loose connection on the battery, nipped up a oil leak under the turbo and finally blew out the chassis rails of debris using the compressor.
 
Stuck a GoPro mount on top of the front bumper, trying the roof rack front and rear struts next, hope to get video at the peterborough off road course.
 
Changed 3 of the 4 front door hinges today the bulkhead - hinge screws in the other was seized solid so going to the peterborough show in a couple of weeks time so i will get a full set from there and replace them all then i know they are all done inc new captive nuts aswell :)

Headed up north today, stopped by Craddocks and picked up a new starter motor. See if it sorts the problem at the weekend.
