Tilt the subframe slightly forward and the cradle eventually came out.would have been easier if the exhaust was removed but it is only the rust that was holding it together.Fitting the reconned one was just the reverse and actually was not that hard. I am very lucky to
have a two post ramp in my shed,which makes this much easier it would be possible to
Do it with jacks axle stands ect if your young and fit . Rebuilding the old cradle is not that hard as long as the curved parts of the tubes are strong,you are a dab hand at welding and have the time and patience to do it .I was pretty pleased with mine and it passed MOT no problem. I am now rebuilding my old cradle .

replaced the brake pipe from the flexy pipe junction to the brake cylinder due to a leak, now the pipe from the front module to the flexy pipe junction, has sprung a leak, 2cm from the junction, will get a new pipe and replace this, had planned to replace all pipes this year as been advised on MOT for a couple of years
 
Tried to remove washer bottle pumps without removing the front bumper. All the screws "holding" the wing liner were buggered solid. They weren't holding anything anyway so I drilled them out. Folded the liner back, ooh loooook, I can see the pumps. Can I get my hand in there to remove the pipes ? Not without snapping the nozzles off :mad: I don't know if the pumps were knackered, but they definitely are now. Anyone who tells you it's possible to get to the pumps without removing the bumper is talking ****e.
Received a nice box with a heater inlet hose and a rear brake adjuster. So that's something to look forward to. Ordered from dingocroft, parts were britpart hose and genuine landrover brake thing. Good stuff !
 
Went through MOT today :clap2:.....Got an "Offside front track rod end ball joint slight play" advisory though.
Suppose best to change both at the same time?
 
today was new disc's and pads, drive shaft and wax oiled the fuel tank bracket as it did not look too bad thought i best try and keep it that way :) now just to replace abs sensor and will be ready for mot :) i hope lol
 
Busy afternoon - fitted a second battery under the rear load bed on the right hand side, and wired it up through a split charge relay to the main battery. To the second battery I have connected my monster mains inverter which I fitted on the left hand side. All working well so I now have 1800watts of mains power from the car when working out in the field and no fear of running the main battery flat and leaving myself stranded.

...not much, since I've been busy fitting my new vice on the workbench

broke the old "small" one during the week removing UJ from propshaft

all cleaned and painted, ready for tomorrow's rebuild

 
Today ive fixed a few problems first my hazard lights and indicators wouldn't work so fitted a new hazard light switch £4.99 brand new off eBay and changed the blower resister as blower would go on and off when it felt like it no more probs as of yet

I like your set up very neat and tidy first class :clap2: will you be doing an how to when putting the VCU back together hope so cheers Arctic2
 
Fixed my washer jets!

They had got so week i thought the pump was either knackered or blocked.

After checking through everything, I decided the fault had to lay in the wiring harness that the washer pipe runs through inside the wing under the bonnet.

I think over time it had all just tightened up squeezing the washer pipe, stopping the water coming through. After a bit of flexing of the harness they started working like I've never seen before! It must have been gradually getting worse for years.
 
I have fitted a new battery, and had another look on ebay for a Peugeot 205 GTi, to replace it with ;-)
 
Fitted a Bell engineering VCU, second one I have from then, and first replacement for this freeby. Test drive reveals much smoother and less tight vehicle, smiles all round. Need to try it off road this weekend :)
 
D Day mot done and passed with 0 advisory s :) mind u i have fitted new rear diff mounts, vcu bearings, front discs and pads, rear shoes, changed all filters and plugs, all oils changed everywhere, new abs sensor, wheel bearing and new drive shaft over the last few weeks :) oh and wax-oiled the fuel tank bracket thanks to seeing them rusted on here

Tore the knuckles off my left hand putting the rear brakes back together (adjuster completely seized), got an eye full of crap whilst investigating the knocking from underneath (exhaust hitting the arm, foam padding cable tied on, knocking almost gone)) and melted the H2OS plug on the exhuast after taking it off whilst changing the heater inlet pipe and forgetting to plug it back in. Arse.
