What have you done to your Freelander today

Took the Freelander for its Warrant (MOT) today - passed :)

Funny thing happened though. Took the Starlet up as well and the bloke said it has failed on the high brake light - he showed me - put his foot on the brake and I went round the back and sure enough the high (middle) brake light was out. "Give it a thump" he said - so I whacked the back window and hey presto it came on. "That'll be a pass then" he said :)

My last MOT the inspector failed it cause ABS light stays on, I argued that it is supposed to until you drive off, to show system is working properly on Freelander. He didn't believe me, reckoned he'd done loads of Freelanders before and never know that. I had to drive him across test station car park to demonstrate it, and show him the relevant page in the owners manual before he believed me and gave it a certificate.!

Jeepers, it can be difficult keeping them legal anyway, but failing them when they're working OK adds a new dimension!

Ive done nothing apart from measure tread depth (which is what I should have done before ordering a replacement tyre). I think I may have to stick to Mondo mode until I can afford to replace all 4 in 1 hit. Luckily I have 2 winter tyres to go on the front.....but I have my VCU sitting here saying 'fit me, fit me' but its not worth the stress of risking damage to that, the IRD and the diff.
Sometimes I should sit back and think, before buying stuff :(

lol, you're not alone. I've built a pond in the garden and we've been talking about some kind of waterfall jobbie outside it we can pump water to from the pond and have it flow back in. Been looking at those resin/fibreglass types that are sprayed in a concrete type stuff to give them a stone look - but they're horrifically expensive. Anyway, a 2nd hand one came up at $450 - so we hit 'buy now' - and that's when the problems started! Hired a std 1.2 wide trailer to pick it up - but it wouldn't fit and the trailer was caged so couldn't get it in any which way. Managed to borrow a flat bed with hydraulic lift to get it home, but its so bloody heavy it'll take 4 blokes (at least) to shift it and I'll have to cut 1/2 the bushes in the garden down to get it to where I want it by the pond. Should have just bought some rocks and made it up myself!

LOL - we are very much alike, we currently have various bits of a 'man cave' in the garden and around the house (I quite like the look of a hardwood barn door and complete (and rather large) window in the front room!) - I just havent got around to digging out the foundations at the back of the garden

Im also pondering what to do with this lone tyre! I 'thought' the tyre on the car was a recent replacement (hence buying this one) but it looks like its 2mm difference between new and old - this new VCU isnt going to get fitted anytime soon :( and me being too trusting went with the 'its had 4 new tyres recently' - which it has....only that 2 match!

I believe potatoes grow well in tyres!

Must stop this mutual dis-appreciation! But.... I have 3 big double glazed windows and a matching double glazed door stacked in the garage from when I decided to build a conservatory/2nd living room - but have been in the garage at least 4 years because we got them before the earthquake - I don't even know if they survived it! Also got about 20M of quality carpet in there as well from a mate who works at a place called 'Ag Research' that had developed new carpet making process for a Kiwi carpet manufacturer and their sample was going 'cheap' (but still almost a $ grand). 10M got layed but this 20M has been in there a good few years and has probably been eaten by mice by now - I know all the neighbourhood cats come in and **** up it! Then there's the boat which was a good 'family investment' - but has turned out to be a very expensive trailer, and the Series III.... Must pick a project and stick to it!

we got a tester like that locally..;)

each time I run a car in to him he charges the same, pass or fail. but after the free retest or if its a straight pass I always tip him a tenner (£10)

if its a headlight out of adjustment, he`ll do his best to reset it.

they (testers) get an hour to do the test now, so cant rush the VOSA printout of pass or fail, so he gets a bit of time for a chat in between.....

the guy wont let anything go, but uses his disgresion on certain things...

but does like his "advisories" section like - my lexus passed no problems, but put down as advisories "cant see brake pipes due to underbody covers" (streamlining) just covers his a$$ I guess ......but happy days..

took 2 goes to get my daughters KA in a week before my lexus.....

but then shes had it 5 years and does big miles in it..

runs sweet as a nut, but was shocked at the milage reading for this years MOT

(its put down for each year now) was put as 3459 or something = 103.459`ish miles, now on 2nd time going round and still runs just great......

Just sold the wife's puma... Speedo was reading 92500 for the second time!

That passed with a couple of advisories as well! My mot man doesn't do me an invoice I just pay £50 cash always a free retest if it needs it.

Drove it - Cromwell to Alexandra via Bannockburn and the Hawksburn road, Cainmuir Flats to Clyde and return via SH8. Engine under shield necessary and HDC a blessing, TC operated on occasion. Otherwise all good.

Replaced the heater control bulbs on my fl1 facelift..... That was fun

Got rid of egr and fitted pcv cyclone ...... Having a look at drivers side rear door today..... Windo stopped working and central locking also ........ It locks on remote but doesn't open.... In car button does nothing ???

My Mac reads the dash cam files as MPEG 2 Transport Stream. I can watch them as a Quick Time movie but am not able to import them to iMovie, iTunes or save it as a Quick Time.

Can any one advise ?

Get a decent computer

If you can't save them to a file - I don't suppose you can do much at all. I know nothing about Apple.

Would be great to see some fantastic Otago scenery before it all gets fried by summer!

Open the file in QT and then export (file>export) to a different format. Might do the trick :)

I changed the crankcase breather filter start to finish and back in the warm (hailstones the size of frozen peas at one point)just about an hour.

Started to give the interior a deep clean with Autosmart G101 - turned out the dashboard is filthy.....it also turns out that the leather seats have been coloured sometime in the past, I might have to dye them again   bugger!!
Yes boys and girls....G101 is damn good stuff, but maybe not for cleaning leather
