What have you done to your Freelander today

Did some work on my rear brakes today for Mons MOT. Freelanders are notorious for having c56p handbrakes.
Took the drums off, both sides full of crap and rust. Both sides are missing the rubber crommits that cover the holes in the back-plate, that allows access to the adjusters. ordered 2 of e-bay.

plenty of friction pad left, stripped the complete mech, cleaned and lubed, reassembled. cleaned, wire brushed and painted the hubs before refitting them.

pumped the foot brake 40-50 times, readjusted the lever, 4-7 clicks, handbrake works a lot better now.

Removed cam cover gasket, cleaned it and checked it's condition.
then re-fitted and torqued to the specified nm.

It has a very small, but irritatating, oil leak.

if this doesn't cure it, i will remove the crank pulley and fit a new crank seal.

Dropped mine off for a new clutch. What courtesy car did I get. A rover 25 :(. There was me thinking my clutch was a bag o ****e. At least I barely need to use it other than to pick me car back up.

Did mine a couple off weeks back and chewed the retaining screws, got some replacements off E-bay plus several spares, if you need any they're yours for the postage.

Insured it.

Took the Hippo down my local Byway , stopped for MTB rider and a couple of walkers who all acknowleged me / waved , then pulled up a for a couple walking their hound .

After they walked past I heard the bloke say "not right driving down here" - red rag bull , reversed up and explained what a Byway is - needn't have bothered as "they have lived there 25 years" ......etc etc , suggestions of looking on a OS map or Definitive map went unheeded and unlistened to .
You cannot educate posh pork.........

Still driving well though does mark it spot once left for an hour or so - will look at that after an MOT pass

Spent far too long trying to remove undertray, one bolt securing the underbelly panel frame almost rounder off, all other screws and bolts came off except this one. Ended up cutting a little section of the undertray out to access the gearbox drain and fill plugs as I noticed this had been done on the other side already to access the sump drain.

Gearbox oil change went smoothly.

Tried to undo IRD filler plug to check the fluid level but couldn't shift it. Will have another go at it this week some time.

... well actually it was Saturday but I've only just got round to uploading the pics!

I took my freelander to the dark side and got the rear glass tinted. It's 5% as I've got the cream leather interior and the standard 20% wasn't dark enough to obscure it. And here's the result:

The guys at O G Tinting in Earls Barton, Northants, did a fantastic job. They are, in fact Land Rover approved and do the nearby dealers' cars. The work is guaranteed for life too. :)

Fitted a new turbo boost solenoid but it made no difference to my lack of power problem.

Also fitted a second hand towbar bought of ebay for £5.50 came with the plug in wiring loom just need to get hold of the uprated flasher unit now.

I've had a new clutch and dual mass fly wheel fitted, after much thought of doing this myself after quotes of £2500 for genuine LR parts.

I found a LR specialist family run garage that did it for £960 all genuine parts.

So I'm now skint and only thing that will be done now is washing it, until end of the months MOT.

Not today, but yesterday, MOT passed, a few advisories, 2x steering joint boots slightly perished, drop arm link has slight play,1 x dif mount rubber deteriorated, these I can do, I'll add the parts needed to my Christmas list. all brake pipes corroded, will get some quotes and get these done next year.

Ordered all the parts for a Clutch replacement

Three Piece Clutch kit
Master/ Slave cylinder unit
Slave Bracket and clip
Improved Clutch arm with grease nipple
2 litres MTF94 gearbox oil

Can't wait to get it fitted and lose that juddery clutch

My red silicon turbo kit pipes have arrived. Just need some spare time to fit them.

Also ordered new calliper sliders and an overhaul kit for the front callipers. Just need to order the discs & pads now.

was it easy to do I been looking at that but not sure how to do it

Piece of cake, split the fob, split the key for the chip, buy a new cr2032 battery, put the board from the fob and chip from the key, in the new key, and glue together, I used tie straps to hold whilst glue set.
Get the blank cut at timpsons.
