It’s been fizzing for 30 years

Flogged to Gap ( 90 minutes each way) to take the dogs to the vet, and managed to get the two parcels of bits waiting for me from Chronopost without paying any more import duties, nor beating the morons for want of a better word 'working' there with the tie rod that was falling out of one of the parcels. I regard this as quite an achievement, and will make fitting the wheel bearings etc look like a doddle....

Had the steering wheel, column and instrument panel off. Got the new indicator switch in place, and then spent an hour moving the column switches. Two had iffy crimp joints- pulled them into the workshop, and soldered them.
And the wiper switch has a spring in it, that is held in place one of the screws fixing it to the column... so when you unscrew it- PING! Lucas, of course. Who else would do that?!
Stuck it back together, and found the indicators still don't work... time to order a new flasher unit then.
Sunday has decent weather forecast, so that is pencilled in as wheel bearing day.

Well the light guards worked & saved my light.



And my nephew also got stuck(tow ball stopping us going backwards)

Found some small twin wire hanging down near the bulkhead. Can’t be anything serious as I drove 100miles today. Will look next weekend. It’s non standard LR cable so I’m not worried….yet….

found the reason my rear roof has damage(caused my the nephew) he did say he scratched it, I assumed it was the drivers side. Nope the passenger side is rippled side & roof supports. Lucky it’s just an Ifor top & not important. Oh & the tree will live on with a chunk missing

Found my 19J engine has a sort of 12J wiring harness, with some extra wires I can't identify from either...the electrics fun continues!

Drove to the Newbury sale in the 90. The starter seems to be getting lazy. I’ll see if cleaning and tightening the terminals helps resolve it or whether a replacement starter is needed…. The mileage passed 108k.

Lifted the front up, managed to get the old brake pads out, and found calipers were just a tad stiff to push back in. Got a bigger lever on them, and promptly sprayed brake fluid everywhere as the reservoir overflowed....
Cleaned that up, making really sure the disks were clear- 95% alcohol is great degreaser.
Got new pads in - old ones were down to 4mm or so.

Renewed the tie rod and ball joints, as they'd split yet again. Found some bailer twine and did a wheel alignment.
Stuck a gas strut retainer on the back door.

Fitted a new wiper motor, wipers and gears. Still don’t work! Fuse is blown though so will change tomorrow. Although didn’t realise fuse values were so involved until I looked them up on the forum. 12a fuse (which I think is hard to find now) for wipers apparently on fuse diagram so 10a replacement ??

again I used the Landrover Ninety 'Ladder' to topp a fir tree, I'm happy that LR specc'd a 'load-tested' roof (it's ann ex-army item if thats important?) thats perfect for standing on by the more well-built gentlemen like myself

shame I wasn't there as I've a stock of new Valeo starter motor stator's (with brush packs) - easily fitted on the bench / floor / back of landy...

I’ll be going in October!

The 90 had a wash, courtesy of eldest daughter and myself! She found out what the wing top chequerplate was for, very useful when washing the bonnet and windscreen!
A Brownchurch roofrack makes washing the roof tricky though!

Walked past it a few times then took the tools out…
Needed these to replace some cables in the S1

Took my cousin's boys and niece up onto the Aldbourne-Lambourne Downs after lunch. Most of the tracks were quite dry...but some areas with small swimming pool sized mud baths. Let both the boys drive, aged 14 yrs and 16yrs. The boys are over from Australia, neither had been in a Land Rover before and loved the adventurous fun of driving the old girl off road. Got back home...the Ninety has never been so dirty, the mud is caked on everywhere. Guess what I'll be doing after breakfast trow...

Well that's it, she's clean again. 4.5hrs to full underbody, engine bay and body jet wash. Then foam spray every last crevice underside and the body, leave to soak and have a 30min lunch. Back out jet wash off the underside and body, then hand wash the body and micro fibre dry off. Leave out in the sun to dry underside...followed by a quick nip down the lane to dry off brakes. Stand back for 1/2 a second to admire her loveliness then back in the tent til trow's trip to the recycling centre. Oh and cut the grass too...I thought Easter Sunday's were meant to be a day of rest

Chased the wiring for the aftermarket central door locking as the n/s door had stopped working.
Pulled out all the cdl wiring and couldn't find a fault, joins ok, signal pulse going down the wires to the solenoids on both sides but only o/s working, both fuses ok.
Off with the door card to check the solenoid which looked ok. Tried a spare solenoid but no joy but when I unplugged it from the loom the connector disintegrated and the wires snapped, they were very corroded and very thin wires.
Put new bullet connectors on the wires and hey presto, n/s cdl working again.
Central locking isn't a must but I've got used to the convenience and even though all was fine using the key I don't like things not working so I had to fix it!

Got home from a week away to find my neighbour has pressure-washed his drive and covered the Landy on my drive with loads of sand and muck from his drive… And I only washed the Landy last weekend!

On the positive side, I bought some decent recovery gear on eBay by way of retail therapy for having to wash the Landy again.

Fitted a new clutch master cylinder to my son's Ninety, last one lasted about 7 years, which is probably classed as being pretty good quality nowadays.

Ordered a new flasher unit and hazard flasher switch, to see if they get the indicators working properly... It wasn't the column switches or the fuse box!
