Done the same as you today, screws around the casing in the steering wheel got stuck (the rivnut end in the plastic), so ended up having to snap it , i would suggest when you screw it back in to put a bit of copper slip on the tip of the screws, as they seize in the top bit

Odd you say that, when I took off original column covers back in 2019 some ham fisted gorilla/previous owner had done just this and glued-cum-self tap'd the upper and lower halves together Ended up buying new replacements and delving into the v8250 st/st fastener store. It's now all shiny with correct sized washers and lubed threads.

I went with one of the cheap ones from China bought it from Vevor. I've not smelt any fumes mines under the driver seat like moremuckmush it does get toasty but I've been using it for camping got a couple of Co2 alarms set up don't think she would get in without, not sure be an issue with the rust in the footwell . If set up properly shouldn't be any fumes just like running the engine when stationary I would say as the exhaust directs it away and with the space under the defender plenty of air/wind flows under. Think I had it over 20 degrees last night in Scotland weather was saying -2 outside just a shock when you turn it off

Suppose it's best just to buy the discovery with the engine in then there's not the worry of any ancillaries missing? I'm a bit green around the gills with the discovery series , what years are we looking at with regards to transplant donor vehicle

Refitted the renovated exhaust today.
Under the tub now all complete so can drop it back onto its wheels.

Meanwhile, many hours later - 50%

I started the service but when I dropped the timing cover wading plug, I got a fair amount of oil out. I suspect the camshaft oil seal as I have already done the crank seal. I have purchased all plus a new belt even though the old one has less than 3k on it I don't like to reuse. So tomorrow I will get it all stripped down and the parts should be in by Wednesday but it will have to wait until next weekend now I am working again

Stripped it down, I am not convinced it is the camshaft seal due to lack of spray oil around the top. I think the crank seal I used was sub standard. Annoyingly I paid the extra to get a 'G' version.

One of those bolts goes into an oil way if I recall. Maybe it’s from there?

Actually it’s this one which is on the water pump on the 12J. Maybe not applicable for your engine.

Mine is a 200tdi so I don't think it is the same configuration. I will only know when I have removed the gears and belt. It is locked in position so once the parts get here I will resume!

A few repairs to my lads 90. Strike plates have seen better days.. Both sides removed, new YRM plates cut and drilled. Just etched primed, waiting for a coat of green.., then rivet in place.

This week sorted out headlight shenanigans and Thursday/Friday stripped OSR hub to replace leaking oil seal...of course it was the inner seal which meant EP90 being sprayed all over the rear inner drum and oil soaked shoes that had covered only 2500miles Strip, a thorough clean, new seal, new Mintex 1155 shoes, repack oiled out grease, reassemble, out with the DTI and wheel on. Then whipped off all wheels to blacken up threads, nuts and hub bolts...I don't like rusty nuts.

Today out for a good sunny test drive to Wiltshire, fed with roast beef, Yorkshire puds and winter veggies followed by homemade trifle...why does trifle taste so good? A 1.5hr walk up onto the Downs with the dogs then back home. Stopped off at Shell Stn in Hungerford for some devils fuel and as leaving a black/dark grey 130 HiTop Camper pulled in. Is this anyone on LZ?

You won't be saying that when you come to complete the puzzle. Actually, it's incredibly well detailed and does take some good time. The yellow background's a real bugger as there are multiple sets of same numbers and components but each are off-set cut so no two are the same. It's like having 30 more sub-set puzzles within a puzzle. I think the yellow will take longer than the main picture

Cleaned painted and refit the tow hitch today.
Also renovated a NATO hitch I have which was completely seized. Fitted an new tow socket just to finish the job up.
Does anyone know if I can get just the saddle part of the hitch so I can mount the NATO hitch to its own plate?

Yes, they are available on their own. eBay has lots, otherwise try Indy parts suppliers. My nato hitch has its own slider.

Again, lots on eBay including rebuild kits. Otherwise try Blanchards.

Fitted a replacement safari door - it came with a working wiper motor and all the wiring intact including high level brake light - so it was correct spec for my Landy instead of the later Puma version that it came with. Well, all connected up and nothing works, plus it won’t close.

I gave up and drank Gin instead, plus I have a perfect but naked Puma door staring at me in the garage….
