not really written as a writeup, more just as a 'what have I done' but thankyou:cool:

I didn't need to replace the turret as the 'origonal' (ex Army Ninety so probably only the seatbox is origonal:confused:) was servicable but if you're in there....

I found their website hard to navigate so didn't find other items of interest like hearlever gaiters that could have been ordered at the same time - ended up finding from other sellers....

More parts removed today to expose the nearside outrigger. The thing is solid but has holes in the top and side. I reckon it’s suitable to patch in new metal. In other news the bulkhead chassis bolt snapped. The bulkhead has got a piece is steel tube welded both sides of the bulkhead, which is solid. I’ve managed to grind away the snapped bolt and spacers but I’m struggling with the threaded bit which is now completely fubared in the captive section. I’m in the throws of drilling it out but what a pita.

Big grips on bolt to rotate. Big hammer & drift. Get a friend to hold drift if needed;)

Beyond that - not a captive nut, more of a sold tube with threads which is welded in on both bottom edges of the bulkhead. I’ve chopped them away and the weld is flush with the original skin. The only way is to drill through so a standard bolt and nut can be passed through. There was no way the bolt was ever coming out, over engineered IMO.

There is no threads in the bulkhead or outriggers;) someone must have made it.
If your still struggling,remove that bracket & weld a new one back on.
Use loads of copper grease on the bolts next time to avoid seizure
 
Liverige put a new bulkhead on in the past and must have put this updated part on. Bastids
Ohhhh they would not update anything ;)
No bet it’s seized in there. Just looked at my photos I must have oversized the hole as bulkhead was going for galvanising & YRM parts don’t state threaded.

Have you got a jack under the bulkhead to take a bit of pressure of the bolt?

so, ~30 mile jaunt completed, seems easier to drive so a sucessfull upgrade:cool:

on the subject of upgrades, collected a Defender 200tdi engine to replace the asmatic 2.5d in the Ninety....

fits in the Ninety easily, twin-engined for now but soon to be in the front....

Yesterday pinned down the crazy headlight fault/s...there were 3x intermittent faults which were a little frustrating to find as were coming ON/OFF at different points of cct, 1. Boomslang poorly crimped connector to 5pin relay o/p :mad: 2. secondary Boomslang 4pin relay intermittent make/break, harrumphing Boomslang :( 3. full beam stalk switch adding to confusion by working on nearside whilst causing offside into wobbly low lumens mode :(:mad::( Now waiting delivery of 2x Lucas grade G stalks.

Today sorted the rear offside leaking hub [why it decided to leak, no idea as all the components/hubs/bearing/seals are near new] The leak sprung into the rear drum so had liberally coated all brake components with diff oil...really. So fully stripped, a thorough clean/degrease to everything, new Mintex shoes, brake rebuild, hub rebuild, end float set, torqued up, lock washer locked...+++

Oddly, found that the 6x stub axle to axle flange nuts had worked lose from original build/ torque settings. Even though they were lock threaded, I put this down to nyloc nuts...I don't like nyloc nuts...so have replaced with good old fashioned washer, spring washer, nut, lock thread and torqued up. It's worth us all checking these on our axles.

Have you checked the axle breather?if blocked pressure build up

If you don't want the steering pump I would buy it from you ;)

Hi Phil, breathers all new/replaced with Gwyn Lewis kits throughout. Checked all outlets before fitting but am going to re-check rear diff and line trow morning...after 7.30a.m. bacon & eggs
