This is the base of the chalk/clay hill


This is a nice lane it goes all the way to that hill on the horizon.


You can never tell how steep these hills round here are.

Nice looking lanes. The gradient doesn't look so steep on these pictures, but I bet it is.

So multimeter came out today to find why my side lights don’t work.
Live at fuse
Live at switch
Live under bonnet
Live behind lights

Dam the lights work...
Check trailer socket all fine.

Fresh grease on the UJs, freshened the clutch fluid and checked all the other fluids prior to a 1000 mile trip around bits of Ireland. The engine oil was changed less than 2000 miles ago and still looks pretty good, the gearbox oils were changed less than 5000 miles ago. As usual, I managed to get grease everywhere - including on top of the wings? Might give the old girl a bit of a wipe before the off. More importantly given the weather forecast I changed the wiper switch last month!

After 12 months of being in bits it has just struck up first time and started, pi$$ed oil out of the oil cooler pipe as it hadn't seated correctly but runs and idles lovely.

How long has she been waiting for you to get the multimeter out, so she could go back to working as soon as you tested it?

I haven't done anything today, but some parts have turned up.

Weather permitting, I'll get something done on it at the weekend

I changed the main wheel bearings recently to Timken bearings.
From previous service work I was aware of the CV joint splines showing reasonable wear, but decided it was ok to just monitor it. Recently, the inner pistons on the drivers side caliper have decided to misbehave causing rust scale to build up. I suspect this has warped the disc. So, new discs needed. Thought I might as well replace the CV joints while I was at it and so stub axles too. After a bit of humming and harring I decided to go for the Britpart kits. You're going to tell me to replace all the Britpart bearings with Timkens, aren't you

Finished painting the wheels this morning, so thats the paint brushes into retirement (I hope - at least for a bit) fitted the checker-plate sill protectors, which when I offered the first one up I really couldn't work out how they are meant to fit. After some searching I realised that they just rivet through the original crappy sills, hope I haven't thrown them away. Found them, then spent 2 hours repairing them before I could fit the fecking things that I thought were replacements. Not happy.
Fitted new door seals and new waist seals and while I was about it gave the window winders a good dose of grease. Readjusted the door catches and had to use some LR approved brute force to get the door tops to shut right.
Put the wheels back on, first time she's stood on her own for near 2 months.
Bit of a tidy up and clear out tomorrow, then a bit of a road test before I start in with all the other odds and sods like change windscreen rubber, upgrade the wipers, fit a radio and a cb, etc etc etc.

I’ve came to the conclusion the borrowed trailers electrics were crap. Plugged my trailer board in tonight & all is fine.
More towing done today. It’s been a busy week with horses.
I have spotted a few oil blotches on the trailer & rear of my motor so gearbox may be leaking slightly when hot

So far I've adjusted and greased the gearbox selector mechanism . It was starting to get stiff but now it's nice and slick (for an r380 that is). Next is to replace the drop arm ball joint and fit the new vacuum pump. Fingers crossed

Found out tonight I don’t have fog or reverse lights.glad my led brake lights are bright

Just because I know you all like piccys, I thought I'd take one of a wheel. Nearly finished, just need to refresh the black.

Anyway, wheels finished and after 2 months she rolls again.
Still loads to do, just decided I am going to fit a window in the L/H side, and a couple of drawers for tools etc. The side without the window I will panel out with some ply for somewhere to hang recovery straps, extinguisher etc.
Important things first though, I hope to change the windscreen seal this week.

When I say window, I mean to fit a full size side window in place of the little one, cos it's a real pain in the arse to see when pulling out of junctions and the little un aint big enough.

Replaced the drop arm ball joint. I could have swapped the whole arm for ease but I already had a ball joint which I'd been given for nowt. Not too much difficulty involved, just used sockets and a vice to remove/replace the top cap. Surprised to find the nut which holds the drop arm onto the steering box shaft was only just finger tight and the arm had a bit of play because the lock washer had not been bent over. This was yet another failing of the people who did my chassis swap (but that's another thread all together). Steering is now pin sharp (a rolling pin) with only 2" of play at the wheel.

Vacuum pump replaced (the old one had no resistance at the plunger, think the spring had snapped). This was a fiddly job and I was tempted to remove the air filter bracket but didn't want to disturb the cylinder head bolts. Quick tip for anyone doing this job - stuff a cloth into the engine support bracket which is just below the right hand side of the vacuum pump. A lost bolt down there takes a some recovering I can tell you. I'll have to be careful now, I've spent so long breaking with two feet on the pedal. I have to remember to be gentle otherwise all of the crap in the back will end up in the front.

Replaced the stub axles, CV joints and brake discs. Stopped for lunch, just have the one shot grease to go in and they're warming in a bucket of water while I have Sunday lunch

Refitted the branch protectors to the headlights. Bit of a ballache as the Brit-part fittings on the lower section are a bit crap. The mk1 fittings work better so did that instead.
