So I have managed to buy a Defender 110 TD5. The problem is its all in boxes. The previous owner took it apart for a restore and its been sat in boxes for the last 5 years. I now have the boxes and I am trying to reassemble it.

its a hardtop which i am looking to do a part overlander build in it but also need to put seats in the back for the kids. I intend to put panoramic glass in the back and remove the bulkhead. something that might be of interest is its been uprated to 3.5Tonnes and also has its original winch that uses the gearbox/engine to work.

the biggest issue is i have never done anything like this before. I have done basics on cars like changing break pads and disks and even replaced an EGR on my transit. but nothing like this.

Welcome :).

Take a look in the members projects section, you are not the first to bring 1 home in boxes.

Good luck, loads of advise available here.

Hi and welcome!

Good luck with the project. It’s worth getting a copy of RAVE and the Land Rover parts manual, which will show you how much of it goes together. There are a few other books which will help. And lots of good advice on here too.

Let us know how you get on. Looking forward to seeing the end pics!

Thanks Guys, ill post some pics in about 7 years when its done :(. I do have a workshop manual and the parts book which have a read of seems very clear even down the the Torque of each nut and bolt. I do have some photos as i have had the chassis repaired and i have now painted it ready to start rebuilding. When I get a chance I will upload them. i actually have nearly 1000 photos taken by the guy to took it apart too. but I wont add all of those.

Im pretty sure, the lucky part about all this is I work with the guy the person who took it apart and he took it apart in a workshop here at work which is where it has stayed. And thankfully I now have use of this work shop to reassemble it. He has also bagged up and labelled every nut and bolt for every part as well as taken photo’s (he is very thorough)

there are a couple of bolts he had to cut off which he already replaced most of them all that is needed it some of the bolts to mount the tub.
