Hey Guys! Im starting to sand down my 90 panels for a re-paint i have some areas that have gone through to the alli, that will need etching.

Anyway what grit sand paper should i be using to key the paint surface?

Also should i prime the surface before putting base coat on?

cheers...

Depends on how deep you want to go but I would say a 120 grit then gradually going up. Plus I would definitely prime it before you paint.

If you are just rubbing down to recoat then i would be using 320grit and scotch brite pads.Where the corrosion is start with 120 then up and i use an acid etch wash primer,i find it better than just an etch primer. So acid etch, primer then top coat.

Sorry guys another question! I need to fill some low spots and plan to use u-pol fantastic. does the filler need to go on bare metal? and what primer should go on top on the filler?

thanks....

Grey is fine but red would be better. As long as the filler is for aluminium it will be fine and just use your normal primers.
