It lives up on the bulkhead drivers side.

The brown cables are heavy and go to an earth point in the battery box here

That could be for anything where PO has used brown & brown-white for earthing :rolleyes: Follow green and white/black]?] wires back to component and/or fuse box. Have you got correct wiring diags? If not, look here

Brown & Brown/White thick gauge wires are the glow plug wires, same with White/Black, but there's no Green wire unless someone has messed about with the wiring which is quite likely. Plus, glow plug relay has six terminal contacts

I think this is factory fitted. The two heavy cables are fully shrouded over their entire length. The crimps look too well done to be DIY.

Pah, that wring's cr*p. Admittedly LR's wiring dept/suppliers are also cr*p. That to me looks like a PO's bodge. No-one screw connects to relays, even when building rally cars we build with high quality crimps/connectors. @meego , how many male connections on that relay?
 
Yes, someone's lovingly heat shrunk a tiny bit of sleeving onto each of the big wires but left the screw-on terminals out in the fresh air to go rusty and make accidental contact with the body shell. I hope there's a fuse somewhere as well as a relay!

If there's no delicate electronic equipment to damage, my approach to these things is to disconnect them and see what stops working.

It’s been on their since I bought it over 10 years ago. It originally was a runway vehicle at Manchester Airport and has an ID plate on the seat box for British Airways. The terminals on the side of the battery box don’t look like a botch job to me either.

Dont forget early series lrs only had one fuse, didnt get two until much later, they also use the bodywork as an earth path, all quality LR ideas!

Op says ex airport vehicle, so might be related to that line of work?

Ah, that could explain a good deal. It might have had lights, sirens, tools and all manner of other accessories, now long since removed.

Mine used to belong to a power station before I had it and in a similar way the wiring loom had a lot of non-standard modifications. The power station technicians had hacked their way into the wiring with breezy confidence, leaving a trail of destruction that looked kind of professional in places. The glow plug wiring had been redirected to power an extra three pin socket on the rear for example. This was puzzling because their use of terminals, heatshrink and the like made some of the modifications look almost as if they were supposed to be there.
