We're planning on joining an organised tour to Morocco next year, and will be needing a CB radio, something I have no experience with or knowledge of.

Looking around there's loads available that work in EU bands, but will these work in Morocco? If not, what do I need?

Cheers!

Eu bands works in Marocco since people in 4wd using CB radios are often from Europe.
I have an Alan Midland 42 which is one of the smallest. Everything is in the mic and it's perfect for a stock range rover like you have.

I ve heard that the Morrocans dont like the CB's and have been advised to hide it as you go in, but also heard that they dont care, dont know if there is a more accurate of checking this out.......no doubt some will tell us difinitvely

Hide it for the customs and do not use a 2 meters antenna:cool:

My understanding is, as 996Turbo suggests, hide it for customs but otherwise they're not bothered!

What does the fact that you are a virgin have to do with your CB radio choice

and they didn't care about our 2m antennas, we had 2 :)

I went through Moroccan customs with a 2m antenna this summer, was going to take the CB out but I forgot/did'nt have time, they never bothered me though :)

You can get a licence to use them but they cost and you have loads of paperwork !

To my mind if you not got a CB even in this country then you missing out when off roading ...... would of thought it a bit of kit that was high on the list when you start to off road , to keep in conatct with the rest of the group..... unless your billy no mates

When I went through Moroccan customs with my dash mounted CB and 2m whip the customs guy said "your not using that radio are you"?

I said "of course not" and away I went :D

Anyone got any specific recommendations for a suitable CB radio? I've seen the Thunderpole T1000 advertised as a fairly good beginner kit - complete with aerials, etc it's around £70-£80 delivered. Would this be a good bet?

They are all much the same Mike. You are only limited by your budget.

However IMHO

Get a 40 channel set
Get one that will 'scan' frequencies.
The antenna and it's set up is more important than the set.
