hi stick to the 2 and 1/4 and fit a zenith from craddocks

regards series 3 tel

That's what i'm doing now. Craddocks is a great website and i will of course, listen to those who know - i will leave the Webber and use a recon / new zenith carb. To keep the vehicle as it is is actually the way i prefer to work as it's already designed and fitted, just needs recondition. 'Custom' Fitting spurious items is always difficult and i have enough work to do bringing it all back from almost dead.

Thanks for everyone's advice on this, helped me make a pretty big decision.

Phil.

well, we used to have them as mil vehs towing a sankey trailer and we could get down to 11mpg when laden. they are cheap and quiet. weber carb; i think they are good. fitted 2. much better fuel economy, but suffered from icing occasionally. nothing to set up on them really, and at MOt time the testers were really impressed with the emissions even though it wasnt part of the test. the Ford V6 conversion is lovely. and will use LESS fuel than the 2 1/4 petrol plus oodles of torque. if you have a good engine then leave it be untill you have sorted all the rest out and made it a pleasant driving vehicle. do all the cosmetics as well and don't worry about it.

Only thing with the 3.0l V6 is the drive train. Seen a diff and half shafts go pop with this engine.

Could someone tell me what MPG a standard 2.25 petrol does?

mpg?????
well i suppose 16-22 is possible. a swb lt wt i think was tested once for mod and at 65 mph did about 13 mpg.
ugh.
if you need a land rover then that is acceptable. it moves a lot of stuff around. putting the spare wheel on the bonnet lowers the drag coefficient a bit. but only a bit.

i was gonna say i thought having a tyre on yer bonnet might actually improve yer drag coefficient cos it'll break the air up allowing some to flow more cleanly over the vehicle - rather than it just slaming into the windscreen

but he seemed so confident about his "fact"

yes, of course; the lowering of the drag coefficient means improving it.
a former employee of mine's father worked for land rover in their clever department. and they had carried out the tests. i think i remember a figure of 0.434, but cannot remember if this was the before or after figure. he has been head hunted and recently has returned from china wher he was looking after the traitorous move of rover to that place. if you really want more info give me a call.
but not tonight as i have a cold and rotten head!

Pray I beg to differ, I am most concerned at the misquoted statistical information...the figure must surely be 0.432:confused:
