Hi all, rebuild is almost complete but I have a question. The final 90 degree tightening of the head bolts is done after running the engine. I presume that it should be allowed to cool prior to the tightening. it does not say in RAVE. many thanks

Yes it does. ;);)
Stage 1 = 80 Nm (59 lbf.ft)
Stage 2 = Loosen by 180°
Stage 3 = 50 Nm (37 lbf.ft)
Stage 4 = Tighten 90°
Stage 5 = Tighten 90°
Stage 6 = Run engine for 25 minutes
Stage 7 = Stop engine, allow to cool
Stage 8 = Tighten 90°

Thanks for that. I now have a dash lamp looks like an engine symbol. no mention of in hand book and cant find it in Rave, anyone know what it is? orange colour so warning about engine somewhere. HELP

Nanocom says its needle lift sensor out of range. I do not understand what it means.or how to fix it. engine starts and seems to run well after surgery. When I set the camshaft I used the 4.?mm spacer as in Rave, i am wondering if I set it wrong. any help greatly appreciated.

Check connection to number four injector is sound and you have not trapped wire under manifold flange. If it's got old chains you need the 4.6 spacer under the N/S of the cam locator.

You must have bloody good eyesight Wammers,to see that from Preston, I hadnt trapped the wire, but the plug wasnt in properly. It came out without pushing in the spring catch. hope thats it,will try it after I,ve had a brew. Thanks again

Took the car round the block and it ran fine, however ,when I returned after 1.5 miles, the tickover was uneven and nanocom said invalid fault.. I dont know where to look . Any ideas gents,

What is the tickover speed, what is the timing modulation warm engine at idle.

Tickover is 750 but is jumping a little, when the idle roughens. when the idle is smoothe its dead on 750 .I will check the modulation and get back soon. thanks

Open for a few seconds then close the injectors one at a time whilst ticking over. See if that does anything.

Static timing is retarded. Modulation should be 45% to 55% at idle engine warm. Ideally 50%. The lower the modulation the more advanced, the higher the modulation the more retarded. So the set point (Ideal point of injection) is 1.60 degrees BTDC actual is 1.45 degrees BTDC so it is injecting slightly to late at idle but within the 2 degree BTDC tolerance. But without modulation at 82.28% it would be much later than that. As the engine revs rise and internal pressure increases inside the pump, modulation rises to maintain injection set point by releasing more pressure from the timing device piston to try and maintain a within tolerance point of injection. If your modulation is 82.28% at idle it will be rising towards 100% at higher internal pressures and that is where your logged fault maybe coming from. Normal internal pressure is 3.5 at idle to 4.5 bars at speed, at 4.5 bars the relief valve opens and returns fuel to the inlet port.
