I have a problem with underfloor storage compartment in 5 door Freelander filling with water.I understand this is a common fault caused by either faulty rear seal or bolts in boot not being watertight.Rear seal seems fine, does anyone know of the bolt problem and how to fix?Was there a recall or anything?

Hello westfaliaman,

I just had the same problem.
Nemo was living in the rear fish bulb
The problem in my case was the strip mounted over the rear door.
It snaps on a metal plate the screws go trough the car and that is were the water comes in.
First it fills up and than it leaks next to the tail door.
In my case the roof in the car was wet.

Had this problem soon after I got my 2001 Y Reg TD4 5 door at 12 months old - dealer had if for 2 days, I understand they remove the rear trim and pressure test, then replace any necessary seals. It was fine then until I traded it in a couple of months ago. The cubby does seem prone to condensation though, probably caused by throwing wet coats and boot into the back.

I just found the same problem in my 3 door 1998. The carpet is all wet and there were sign of water consendesation on the cubby hole cover. In the past I have also found water in the boot. Do you know how to solve this?

See my reply from last May - it worked with mine - I assume if you feel so inclined and have a jet wash you could do the same. The problem may well be with rear door seals, some were replaced because they had gone hard when the used Freelander was PDI'd before I took delivery
