Having sailed up and down the west coast of scotland for years me and the missus decided to do it a bit different this year and have a bit of an exploration by landy.

We stayed in the oban bay hotel on the first night.

Avoid at all costs unless you dont mind the ambitious description of the facilities and the lack of any form of cleaning staff for the last couple of years.

The next night we stayed in the Galley of Lorne in Ardfern.

I highly recommend this establishment and it was a breath of fresh air compared to the dreary dirty oban bay.

Good food, good drink friendly staff and a whopper of a view from our room

anyway heres some pics

Crossing the Atlantic bridge onto the Isle of Seil (built 1793!!!)

Dont park that disco too close, the chassis will melt at the sight of all that salt water!!!!

Typical weather for Scotland, these were taken at 11 in the morning....

Easedale Island looks like a harsh place to live.

Thats the ferry to the island which is being attacked by a giant seagull

Had to stick this in for comedy value. Long walk or short drive? spotted near the crinan canal!

Coming back down the road was pretty spectacular. this is just after the rest and be thankful (which had roadworks at it)

After this wee trip ive invested in a gopro hero 3 to document our future jaunts so keep an eye out for some hd journey documenting!

Ill also try and take less photos with the disco in shot!!!!

Northern Highlands is my new home turf. Moved up in May last year. When I read of people doing Expeditions to this part of the world, I still can't believe I'm actually privileged to live here!

Yours looks like a great trip. If you're planning a return, I recommend venturing further north. Sprint up the A9 to Inverness, then head west out to Ullapool, then up through the Coigach peninsula and on to Kylesku, Scourie and around the North Coast. The scenery will blow your mind. It's not even typically Scottish - more like something from another planet. Some great campsites, and beaches to die for!

Or..West out of Inverness to Skye, Torridon, Applecross (over the Bealach Na Ba!), Strathcarron, Glen Docharty, etc. Again, scenery to blow your mind.

Looks lovely.. I am hoping to walk the Cape Wrath trail later this year. I love it up there.

That's one I'd like to do as well. Probably not all of it. I'd pick it up at Oykel Bridge, not far from where we live.

Bob Cartwright, at the Outdoors Station, did a series of audio podcasts on the trail, starting from Ullapool and heading to Cape Wrath. Worth a listen. The Outdoors Station | Podcasts to inform, inspire, entertain and encourage people to enjoy a healthy outdoors lifestyle.

Edit to add; they're podcasts nos. 232-236. You will need to scroll back a bit through their archives to find them.
