Hi All, just tool the 1999 DSE to the shops this morning..
it's making a weird rushing noise ( sounds like its in front of the drivers side footwell).. under acceleration.. seams to only happen over 1800rpm.. and seams a little down on power.. although drives 'ok'..

Any ideas ?

im not massively mechanically minded.. but if your clear with yr instructions im happy to have a go....

thanks as ever

As it is a derv, boost leak. Check the boost pipes, one has ruptured.

ahh.. sounds more like it..
how do i test them ? havent had the hood up yet...
easy fix ?
An easy way to test is buy a smoke bomb. Drop it in, close it up and wait for smoke to emerge (but won't find high pressure leaks). There are various testers you can buy which bung up the turbo side and post airbox, then inject air pressure (compressor needed) and listen for where the noise is coming from.

A visual check will find a large fail, but at times it can be something silly like a loose jubilee clip.

You could try getting someone to give it some gas while you're having a look. You might not be able to pinpoint the location of the leak, but will give you a vague idea. If it is a big enough leak you might even see the air pressure making itself known.

The last car I had a look at had a lot of oil in the intake so it was spraying jets of oil over the engine.

Hi Guys...Bix was right, loose jubilee clip on the short vertical hose.. was blowing and eventually slipped loose from the jubilee clip...
hose looks a little ' strained' around the edge.. so have tightened the jubilee clip and all is well..
However.. im now thinking maybe i should replace the Hoses and jubilee clips..
any recommendations ? or should i just search on Flebay ?

you guys all rock btw

thanks so much
