When I wang the old bus (2.25 petrol 110) to the left, eg turn left at a junction with a bit of speed on, she immediately starts coughing and spluttering and I've got to pull the choke right out to keep her going. It can then run roughly, coughing and spluttering along for bloody ages:(. My first thoughts are under fueling as she picks up a bit with the choke out??

Would appreciate some ideas where to start looking

cheers

Sounds like a problem a lot of older lawnmowers suffer with over uneven ground, which is almost always down to gummed up float and bowl stopping free movement. Could be time for a carb refurb.

Hi Kernow

Thanks for the reply, can you explain for a newbie how this makes it run roughly?

thanks

The float chamber is meant to keep a sort of ready use supply of fuel in the carb, at a constant level to feed the jets, if the float sticks it can't maintain the fuel at that level. In a straight line you might not notice the difference, but cornering the car rolls and the fuel level drops, starving the jets. It's not unusual for the gummy residue to cause this, but it's particularly noticable in mowers cause they're left to sit for periods and the fuel evaporates, leaving the crap behind.

Yup - this sounds right - could also be water in the fuel too.

Clean out the carb bowl and see what you end up with...

If it's dirt, then fit a fuel filter into the fuel line, clean out the carb a,d happy days.
If it's water then either try some @dry fuel@ type stuff from Halforsm or dorp the tank, and clean it out.

(A fuel flter is a good idea anyway!)

Mike.

Thanks for the info guys, looks like a clean of the carb is the first step. There is an inline filter next to the electric fuel pump so i'll change that aswell.
