I was driving down to our local Asda on Monday when I spotted a strange Defender looking vehicle heading at some speed in the opposite drection. It was obviously no normal 'Landy' because of the speed it was going and the way it seemed to handle. Turned out to be a QT Wildcat, which I have discovered are made just up the road where I work in Estover, Plymouth. I managed, with a 'Landy' mate to blag a quick look around the factory. Absolutely stunning, truly automotive porn. The top spec ones are made for events like the Daker Rally and such. Has anyone seen one of these beasts in action? I was told they make 10 a year so lordy knows what they cost. The red one I saw had a 4 litre Jag V8 engine. I am going to be doing the lottery this weekend cos I want one and I want it now!
There is a bent space frame outside the factory which came out of the Widcat that crashed in spectacular fashion in the Dakar, clips are on Youtube, I don,t have the link, but it involved about 7 high speed forward somersauts after nose diving off a dune. The crew' apart from mild concusion and perhaps a couple of broken ribs, were relatively unscathed and the recovery team were able to drive the car back to base. Amazing.
