Hello All,
Can anyone recommend a garage in the Bristol / Somerset area where I could get me Defender 110 properly waxoyled.

No, if you want it done properly then do it yourself, set aside a weekend, hire an industrial steam cleaner and compressor complete with schutz gun and get a couple of gallons of the stuff and play away, remember to get some blanking grommets for the cavities you need to drill into and then seal up.

I have talked to several people who have had their trucks waxoyld by various different companies and all have varying experiences, some good, some bad, one girl said they literally just blasted it all over the underside of her Defender and hadn't drilled any holes to let them into the cavities to get the wonder wand in there and they covered the exhaust but not the gearboxes, so as soon as they got hot it stank like a mofo!!

Indeed and think we’ve both seen so many horror stories of cowboy garages , there was one a little while ago wasn’t there who really bodged an underseal job up , all over the brakes as well

Was very lucky as there’s plenty of drainage holes in my chassis so the wand could inject everywhere and could see the dinitrol dripping out so knew it had gone everywhere inside the chassis

Also made sure everything was masked off, doesn’t take the long actually

Christ I think like all of us would do our nuts if they sprayed everything, sheer lack of pride

@Howie C - This topic has been done to death on here .... do a search .....

I'll summarise the results for you:-

1) Waxoyl is not what it used to be - IMHO, don't bother.
2) Dinitrol and/or Bilt Hamber are the products to use. ( they both do vehicle kits - £150 ish IIRC)
3) Forget the rust you can see - rust on the inside of sections is the killer.
4) DIY or don't bother IME and IMO ( and others, as above).

:)

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated, will take heed. H

Ur welcome , it’s just so many horror stories out there , so at least doing all the work urself u know it’s been done right along with saving money

On the dinitrol web site u can actually buy the sheets of where to spray and inject according to the model of vehicle u have and buy complete kits as @Disco1BFG mentions

Here’s a link

Of course the key is preparation , but well worth it :D

Get some plastic HD ramps to allow u more room and plenty strong enough as my lump of a landy was fine on them

I bought 4 x of these

+1 - It's boring, tedious and filthy ..... but Proper Preparation Prevents P*ss Poor Performance ;)

Ur so spot on , seemed to take forever making sure every corner was cleaned off, inc inside of the chassis was blasted out and allowed to dry ,

Also took all the plastic wheel arch liners out , then refitted with all new plastic clips

Interested to know what kind of treatment they used at the factory as the chassis and body on mine is in superb condition , even when I removed panels inside to replace my curtain airbags there wasn’t any issues with rust

Was Impressed for a 12 x years old landy

Yeah but all that steel your mere youngster is made of is zintec .... so if there was any rust it would be something of a concern .....

( course it will rust at some point when the zinc is all used up ....)

The new bits on our D1's are all zintec - and they weren't rusting, even where they had been MIG welded ........ I still painted them though:)
