Kooga (my Discovery) wants a bit of underbody protection so I want to WaxOyl or similar.

I realise I will get very dirty lying under it with pressure washer etc.

I reckoned on it costing me about £40 - £50 in materials alone.

Is it worth paying someone to do this for me and does anyone recommend anyone in my area and what kind of price they might charge.

I am wanting to do inside and out of all body and chassis sections.

Cheers,

Ian.

If you've gone to the trouble to name your Discovery, it's only right to give it a personal hand job. I wouldn't want any other "stranger" messing about with "my Kooga's" underbelly.. :)

i have the LR patented oiling self protection system.
chassis has about 90 gallons of 10/40 on it by now.

When I had my Landy first checked over (i.e., just before I bought it) by a very fine mechanic - he pretty much told me the same thing: i.e., Land Rover has its own built in rust protection - because they **** oil from every possible gasket they have! This mech, good as he is, was no Landy fan - he was trying to tell me to forget about it and buy Jap; I smiled at him and said "but the Jap's don't make Land Rovers do they?" I have driven a few Nippon four by fours and I still own two (an old Suzuki SJ410 and a new model Tracker [also made by Suzuki]) and none of them, including Toyota, can ever get close to that 'Landy' feel on and off road!

The mech's note on the built-in Landy rsut proofing was an exaggeration no doubt - but I do have a fine coat of leaked oil on my Landy's underside!

landys are like that. you either love em or hate em.
there aint no half way measures.

Not yet Turpsy, just been worried about the MOT at the moment though. I think I may bite the bullet and do it myself on a nice weekend.

Now where did I put that hazchem suit....

Are you able to purchase POR-50 out your way? If so, get yourself a few pints - (its pricey stuff $50.00 Canadian a pint - approx 25.00 pounds UK) - but nothing will stop or prevent rust like this stuff - I learned this from a pro-auto restorer - and I checked it out myslef - it works!
