Waterproof my winch?

To make this waterproof should i fill it with silicon where the 4 cables go in and around the edge?

What about where the remote cable goes in and the switch?

Its a winch-it yeti 13000lb

With the best will in the world, your gonna have a task to try and waterproof that!

I would do the best you can with small dabs of silicon and some WD40 to try and keep the moisture out.

Best thing you can do is move that solenoid into the engine bay, as high as you can get. Dont go nuts with the silicone though, you dont need a lot, just enough to seal it. Remember you will have to undo those bolts at some point and if the sealant is all over it, it will get very boring.

Long term - save for an albright solenoid and keep maintaining it, if you dont, it will let you down when you need it.

T'was meant slightly tongue in cheek

It may have it's applications but would wear off in just the places that you don't want to stay wet. May work well on the electrics though

Yeh im getting the cable today to wire it into the engine bay. Ok i wont go to mad with the silicone and i think i might keep a plastic bag wrapped around it.

I take it this could never be used under water then?

What make is it? winch it??

Never heard of them to be honest. Your Chinese winches will never be up to much abuse due to the components use in manufacturing, but saying that, most people dont have 2.5K to spend on a giggplpin winch etc etc.

I have a warn xd9000i with the solenoid packed away in a bridge over the top of the spool and ive siliconed it, and subsequently dunked it loads of times in 3 years. Yours however is open to the elements and susceptible, im not saying it wont work, but you need to look at how much you payed for it compared to others and ask yourself why the others are more expensive.

The goldfish range of winches are brilliant underwater, but more expensive as a result.

Just do your best and take care of it.
