Hello

We are new to the world of Land Rover and now have a small holding, we needed a good off road vehicle and also something to have fun with, so a SWB ex RAF soft top seemed to fit the bill.

We are now experiencing problems with the water temperature gauge, when you switch the ignition on the gauge rises straight to the red zone and stays there, the engine is not overheating and I have tested with an omhs meter and have a reading of 300 when cool, and the resistance decreases as the engine gets hotter and then increases as it cools. The sender looks new, when he sender is disconnected, the gauge returns to the resting point. Has anyone had a similar problem and any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks

John

X1 on that. The fact its swinging about at random suggests a short. Keep the faith it's a minor problem. Landys were built for smallholdings' .

Also it is worth checking over your earth wires. Make sure they have good connections.
Mine would do this when I turned the lights on.
Cheers

If the sender looks new it may be a recent replacement given the varying resistance readings it's working ok, but it may the incorrect one, therefore incomparable with the temp gauge.. something to check.
You have checked the continuity of the feed wire from the sender to gauge haven't you.

Hello Guys

Many thanks for getting back with your suggestions. I have now checked all the points mentioned and I have come to the conclusion that it is either the sender is the incorrect one or a faulty unit. About 20 minutes ago, I found in a box in the back, some old parts and one of which was a sender unit and that appears to be fairly new !! Will now order a replacement from Paddock and I am reasonably certain it is the correct one.

Oh well, I think owning a land rover is gong to be like a love affair, highs and lows !!

Thanks again

John
