Driving along on Saturday and the bettery light came on, then the power steering failed so pulled in asap and turned it off, checked the temp and all ok.

Got to the front of the vehicle and there was small amount of steam coming from the bonnet, not enough that I could see it from the drivers seat. Opened the bonnet and found that the plastic pulley from the water pump (top right above the alternator) had sheared off. The belt was still intact but there was fluid coming from the shaft that attached the pulley to the assembly.

Let the engine cool down a while then had a look around, some power steering fluid was going down the side of the power steering reservoir, and a little fluid down the side of the coolant tank too, looked in the coolant tank and still plenty of fluid in there so a small amount.

Now then, I have no idea what I need to buy to get running again. It happened just before I had to go up north so I'm not near the vehicle to take pics or anything.

Is it this part

Does the old pulley bolt off the and then bolt on to this part? Been trying to find a good pic of the unit on t'interweb whilst still on the engine but I can't

Cheers

ye old pulley bolts onto this part..pretty simple job to do you need to take off pulley at bottom of pump housing aswell to get bottom bolt out..

Having a problem getting the pulley off that fowls the lowest bolt on the water pump cannot get the pulley bolts off. Any ideas how to undo them?

Also found the belt tensioner has gone so need to get some bearings for that too.

Tried it with the belt on and it just spins, took the belt tensioner off so I could get in there better and using a rubber filter type grip on the pulley itself, getting much better grip on the pulley, managed to get one of the bolts undone but just cannot get the other two undone.

Get a longer m8 thead bolt with a nut on, scew it in a bit then tighten the nut down to the pully so the bolt head has some thread between it and the nut and you can hold the end of the bold rith a ring spanner and losten the others then all you will need is another 13mm open end spaner to slack the nut off and hey presto the bolts are out.

when you do them up do them hand tight and put the belt round and the tensioner will hold them. tighten them up that way and the should be tight enough, if you want to be precice remove the rad cowl and use a torque wrench (not sure of the settings).

just make sure you tighten them up before you fire her up!!!

hope this will help
cheers baz

Got the bolts off fine ta. Good advice, put a longer bolt through the one I was able to undo put a psanner on one of the other bolts and held the spanner against the longer bolt and then wa able to undo the remaining bolt with a socket. then did it the other way for the last bolt.

It nevers ends though does it.

I ordered replacement bearings for the tensioner, infact I ordered two sets so I could have a spre. They turned up yesterday, I took the circlip out from the tensioner pulley had a butchers at the bearings and they are perfectly fine. It's the pulley itself that's fooked.

The indside of the pulley has somehome destroyed itself around the bearings??? Which is why it was rattling around like a knob.

So I now have three lots of tensioner bearings and no pully.

Where can I get the belt tensioner pulley from and get it delivered next day delivery?
