Series 3 Water pump fan coupling ... Square or round?

Hi all, can anyone give me a definite answer. Just bought a new old stock 9 hole water pump with a square fan coupling. Looking online most seem to have a round coupling. Seller assures me this is fine, different manufacturers had different couplings. Are they correct? Regards, Mark. (Series 3 21/4 SWB petrol 1980)

dont see that it matters as long as the bolt holes line up and the fan sits flush its the bolts that retain the thing but to answer your question i have used both with no issues presuming your on about the flange

Thanks Jock, appreciate it. Rang both John Brows and the Land Rover Centre, both said it "should fit" but no defo answer.
There seems to be only one fan you can get so I'm going for it. If it's wrong i'll just have to wait a while longer for the old girl to get back on the road .....
which is par for the course at the moment.
