Water leaking in.....again

I have spent a lot of time sealing all the water leaks to stop the rain coming in, so much so I have to have the windows open through fear of suffocation. Its near air tight. This was all fine and dandy for about 6 months but now I have a new leak. I have spend days spraying a jet washer over the wind screen to try to find it but I can't work it out.

Its coming in the drivers side just below the wind screen.

Its coming in through that gap above the vent grill where you see the lip of metal. but its not the seal as thats been siliconed

its enough to drive you mad but the worst thing is it flows down through all the wiring and through my speakers

could it be coming in via the washer jet hole?

does it drip on your foot when its on the accelarator pedal??? If so let us know when you find it cause mine leaks there.

Try runnin' some sealant behind yer windscreen rubber and the frame and also the glass. Mines has been leakin' after changin' the bulkhead, just need to seal the rubber to the glass now after the rubber bein' disturbed

Might be time to change the seal then mate. Ye would have to either remove the windscreen or lift it up with the roof to change it. Ah think ah've got some photies somewhere

I resealed it with silicone about 6 months ago. i picked all the foam seal out and filled it with silicone

I will have to do it again

I even sealed the vent flaps shut as water was ****ing in through there!

Not wanting to hijack this thread but could you mention if the new seal for the lower windscreen should be fitted sticky side up or down? Mine is in bits and I forgot to take a note. Would you advise sealant on the 'non sticky' side as well?

Sticky side down I think; at least thats how mine was when I scraped it out and refilled it with silicone

Aye mine too As far as ah know they can only be fitted one way.. there's spikes stikckin' up from the bulkhead and holes already inthe seal. Just make sure everything is clean. When ah fitted mine, ah stuck a big bead of sealant behind the new seal as the gap behind it on one of the busses was rotten... wouldn't hurt to stick some sealant on top of the new seal

I will have to strip out the dash again then and run some sealand on the inside as well as redoing the out side. theres no way I can lift the roof off

Thanks for that....... I am not a plumber but I wonder if it is possible to over seal preventing water that should run away gathering in pools and ****ing through odd places?
Just a thought while supping my supper

Ah reckon ye should just get away with removing the top part of the dash and smoothing the sealant out
It might be an idea to check yer windscreen brackets as water can seep in there as well

The 2 gaskets for each of the windscreen hinge brackets are part numbers MXC9982 and MXC9983.... Thats for my 1994 Defender (have my invoice for mine in front of me from lrseries)
